If this were something like the iOS app, it would be a nice addition, but it ain't. It's a subscription movie player, not a movie-goers' app. Worthless.

Odd,
the write up here says you need an account but at their web site it says:

Dear Flixster Community,

After seven fabulous years with you all, we are sorry to let you know that we're going to be retiring the Flixster Community site on September 30, 2014. Please note that you can still access your ratings, reviews, and quizzes on Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes using your same login. We have had so much fun building this community with you.

Thanks for all the memories,
Flixster

While I agree that its subscription model is not the best, it is not "worthless" and does what it claims. The selection is decent but could be better.

Worthless is a strong word. I agree, it's missing pretty much all of the features of the iOS app., but at this point, it seems that the desktop version of this app is only designed for one purpose... to manage/view your Ultraviolet movie collection.

I think the main problem here is that the MacUpdate description is misleading/incorrect. While the Flixster service/website is "is a place to discover, collect, and watch movies," the desktop app has none of these features. I have purchased 20 movies on Blu-ray that have come with an Ultraviolet digital copy. These are essentially movies in the cloud and the Flixster app allows me download and view these movies from practically anywhere (assuming I have an internet connection). That's pretty much all it does. So yes, to the "general" end user, this app would seem to be worthless, especially based upon how it's described, but it does serve a purpose, as singular as it might be.

It makes me angry that this is only for Ultraviolet and requires Silver Light. I refuse to use Silver Light and have only 1 ultraviolet movie, that I've never watched. This requirement is not listed above. So the real purpose of the app is not listed and the actual requirements are not specified. That reeks.

No, I think useless is exactly the right word for this.
