This is a crazy piece of Chinese software and if you install it on your Mac then you are as mad as a bag of monkeys.

Just wondering why this is "free". These days, anything that's "free" pretty much always data mines you. I would appreciate it if the developer could respond to this concern.

This will play .dvdmedia files - there's nothing other than Apple's DVD Player that will. I've ripped a hundred or so DVDs in dvdmedia format because it allows a MENU, listing individual episodes. Importantly this player lets you AirPlay to an Apple TV and Apple's DVD Player WON'T!! And this makes all the difference in the world to me. I'm running Sierra and I'm praying that this just keeps on working through many future macOS upgrades.

I don't know how this version appeared in the new apps here but v2.17.2 went out in may 2017 and hasn't been updated since. I've been using it until recently when I found Movist more satisfying for my use.
This still remains a good FREE player.

Call me paranoid, but my suspicions get aroused when I see a disk image called simply "Installer" containing one file called simply "Installer". Running Get Info on the file simply tells you "Copyright 2015. All rights reserved" with no indication of who the copyright holder is. Then, if you try to run the installer, it also prompts you to install MacKeeper. Red flags all the way!!

This is probably what you get when you hit "Install Now" instead of "Download"... ;-) This has nothing to do with the app.

Oh, I've got it! You meant directly downloading from their website.
You're absolutely right (I've just tried it as the update is not available here ;-) ).
And if trying to update from within the app, you get a "Failed to connect update server" error... :-/

Current version is 2.16.10, even if their app's web page states 2.16.9. Well, I have just tried this on a mp4 with separate srt subtitle file: I wasn't satisfied with how VLC displayed it, tried Movist that didn't even recognized the subtitles, same thing with MPlayerX... :-/ Surprisingly, Mac Media Player did exactly what I want, big yellow subtitles. :-) Conclusion: I would have liked VLC or Movist to be my favourite player — actually VLC is, except for the lack of control for subtitles, on the other hand Movist offers great control on the way it displays them but often doesn't recognize the files and I didn't figured out how to tell it to load a specific srt file when so... — so in the end, Mac Media Player is a nice alternative which I'll use when the other two fail.

Movist doesn't support all the subtitle types of some other players. It specializes in embedded (or external) srt files. I really hope the developer adds other options. If you're having trouble getting an external subtitle file to load, you can drag it onto the video window once it starts playing.

VLC lets you modify EVERYTHING about subtitles: size, color, outline thickness, and background color and opacity. It's in the menubar "subtitles".

Maybe VLC large wasn't large enough for you??

mapski99> I use VLC since it's been created and I can guarantee you that subtitles customization is not working at all with the stream subtitles of my TV provider (called "Free.fr") and the .ts files recorded from those streams. This is just an example and there's plenty of other situations where it doesn't work — and certainly not as precisely as Movist. ;-)

There is a really annoying lag from the time the app starts and the actual media is brought up for viewing. Other than that the quality of playback is good,

What exactly is wrong with it? You don't like it because the developer is Chinese? Any other reason?

I'm doing research on the anger level of monkeys and would like to inquire more about the anger of the bag of monkeys. How many monkeys are in the bag? Are they angry because they are in the bag or were they angry first? If you throw in a toy does the anger decrease? So many questions to answer for Dr. Krieger!

OMG, RavenNevermore, I didn't even take into consideration racial tension between monkeys! This means I'll need to do an entire new study (government funded of course) to study the effects of different monkey anger variables based on geographic location, race and possible sport team choice. This is a grant goldmine!

Macgo Free Mac Media Player is a basic but efficient program to play all kinds of media files right on my Mac. For the app itself,I would like to agree that this free media player is not bad. After install it, I tried my download media files on my computer. It played directly with high definition.Except that, we won't have to worry about managing complicated configurations or setups before I start playing my files. The basic controls you need to open new files and manage playback are intuitive and easy to find. When using the Advanced share function features,I really spend very little time to study it according to their description... about a few minutes later,I shared my favourite movies to my FB friends. Another point is the cool interface, There is nothing I can complain. It fits all the requirements that I need. Some features and advantages but they have of course to be free - what a mentality! The Developers should be given props for a great and free app that is excellent!

Oh! Nice update Macgo International Ltd! Thought I would give your app a try again. BUT Instead of connecting to xunlei.com it is now connecting to em.sandai.net!!! Why is your backdoor port trying to connect to servers in China?! If it is updates I can understand. But I understand xunlei.com & em.sandai.net are servers used by your RED ARMY! Are you trying to spy on me? hmmmm?

Referring to an outbound connection as a "backdoor port" is evidence that WetNet bought a copy of Alarmist Megahacker Firewallolol and now they think they know something about networking and software update checks.
