Beyond Compare overview

Beyond Compare allows you to quickly and easily compare your files and folders. By using simple, powerful commands you can focus on the differences you're interested in and ignore the rest. You can then merge the changes, synchronize your files, and generate reports for your records. You can compare entire drives and folders at high speed, checking just sizes and modified times, or thoroughly verify every file with byte-by-byte comparisons. Once you've found specific files you're interested in, Beyond Compare can intelligently pick the best way to compare and display them. Text files can be viewed and edited with syntax highlighting and comparison rules tweaked specifically for documents, source code, and HTML. The text contents of Microsoft Word .doc and Adobe .pdf files can also be compared but not edited. Data files, executables, binary data, and images all have dedicated viewers as well, so you always have a clear view of the changes.

The Pro version of Beyond Compare adds the following features: 3-way text merge, 3-way folder merge, built-in SFTP support, text replacement, Folder-Compare alignment overrides, and support for WebDAV, Dropbox, and subversion. Pricing information can be found here.

Just to say, BC cannot text-wrap so if you need to diff long lines this makes it very annoying to use. Otherwise this is an excellent tool.

I also have been a BeyondCompare user on Windows for many years and was so excited to see that they made a Mac version. It is clearly the best diff tool for Mac. Scooter did a wonderful job porting the tool over to Mac OSX. Congratulations and THANK YOU! MacUpdate seems to be a bit slow on the updates so I'd just head over to scootersoftware.com and get it directly from them.

Beyond Compare was one of the very few things I missed when I abandoned Windows for Mac several years ago, and having a Mac version available now is fantastic. There are some other decent tools out there for synchronization and file diff, but none of them is close to Beyond Compare in doing so many things so well and providing many fine-tuning options. It's also blindingly fast -- I regularly sync directory trees with thousands of files in them, and Beyond Compare does in a few seconds what other tools I've used take well over a minute to do. Another plus is that you export projects -- a great time-saver if you work on multiple systems, so that you don't have set up complicated projects on each one.

This app has had some religious love on other platforms and just made it over the Mac. I was desperate after trying and paying for Kaleidoscope, and trying all of the other major ones, like DiffMerge, Kdiff3, Meld, etc. Most are clunky ports from Linux. Kaleidoscope is a nice native app but lacks features, like inline editing for diffs. I can't live without inline editing personally no matter how nice an app looks. Beyond Compare is the only one I've found that seems to do it all in a fairly native way. The pro version is a reasonable price. Check out the trial and go to the forum to get setup instructions for subversion. I think this is hands down the best diff tool on the Mac.

Beyond Compare was the one and only reason I used such Tools like Wine or VMWare. No other folder/file diff tool comes close to Beyond Compare. Finally it arrived on Mac and one thing is for sure: Even in it's Beta-Version it is already way better than any other diff tool on Mac I know of. And I know most of them. I am totally satisfied with the Beta Version. Thanks to the developer for releasing a mac version.

Excuse my poor english writing. I use Beyond Compare 3 on PC since... I do not remember. And on my MacBook with Parallels Desktop. I have asked many times Scootersoft to port Beyond Compare on Mac OS X. When they had a good beta to try in the end of last year, I started to use it on my Mac. It is a great and usefull soft for many uses. I use it to be sure that my work on audio files are well backuped, when I move data on servers...
