This app is amazingly comprehensive, with LOTS of information about public campgrounds. Info such as distance from your current location, number of campsites, fees, exact address, water & dump station availability, size of sites, contact phone numbers, etc.

Below the individual listing info there are buttons for Google, Yelp, Weather Underground, and others, to get more info related to the campground you're looking at. Pretty impressive.

I've played around pretty extensively with the app, checking local campgrounds that I'm familiar with, and the info seems quite accurate. I'll be taking off in a couple of weeks for a 2-month camping road trip; I'll add to my review when I return.

Good for on the road! Plus you can import / export a Favorites file to / from either app.

Ok, after using Ultimate Campground Project for six weeks I can confirm that it is an invaluable resource for those who prefer to stay in public rather than private campgrounds. I have both the Mac and iPhone versions of the app; laptop would be used to do research when we were stopped for the night, and the iPhone version was running pretty much all the time on the truck's dashboard. My recommendation: don't leave home without it.

It is based on data from the web-based Ultimate US Public Campground Project, located at www.ultimatecampgrounds.com.

Infomation included:
  • US Forest Service
  • Bureau of Land Management
  • National Park Service
  • Fish & Wildlife Service
  • Bureau of Reclamation
  • Corps of Engineers
  • State parks and other state facilities
  • County and regional parks
  • Municipal parks
  • Utility company facilities
  • Indian reservations
  • Military
  • Tennessee Valley Authority
  • Private (museums and conservation groups)
  • A handful of miscellaneous locations.
This app is intended for everyone regardless of their camping interests - it can be filtered by the facility owner, such as Forest Service or county. Users can also filter on camping preference, such as Tent, RV or Back-Country. Mark locations as your "favorite." Get driving directions to the campground. Clicking on a campground location on the map shows available information about each location such as total number of camp sites, number of RV sites, number of electric hookups, whether there are showers and/or an RV dump station, fees, nearest town, phone number, elevation and web site. Of course the app can only show what information that can be discovered for each location.

While this app works best with Internet access, it is not required as the campground data is embedded within the app. Some supplemental services do require Internet access but this does not detract from the overall usefulness of the app. Note that this app does NOT contain information on commercial campgrounds. Also note that military campgrounds are included because they are government-owned, but in most cases their use is limited to active-duty and retired military personnel.

Please review the Ultimate Campgrounds FAQ at www.ultimatecampgrounds.com/uc/index.php/faq-s. There are limitations to our accuracy and the FAQ will explain them. Some of the obvious issues we face are fee changes, URL changes and closures. In an effort to continually improve the accuracy of the data, users are encouraged to use the feedback function on the Ultimate Campgrounds web site or the email function within the app to submit corrections, additions and suggestions.
