Clicking on the Dev Website link both here and in the Mac App Store sends you to what appears to be a distributor called MacAppWare. There doesn't seem to be a trial or demo for this software, which would really help potential users decide if it's worth it. Reviews on the MAS, though over a year old, aren't too positive, which makes it even more important to check out a demo first.

Neither as intuitive nor as powerful as an app like iDraw. No tutorials available. Meh.

Sorry you didn't find Candy Apple useful. We are working hard to bring this app out of its infancy and will be working on a bunch of tutorials this Fall. There is a lot of power already under the hood and we are also fine tuning the controls and features to make it more intuitive with each update. Our customers have been a big help in sending us suggestions and constructive comments that allow us to evaluate what will work best for them.

I decided to take a punt on this in view of today's 50% off Promo. Purchase, download, unzipping all went smoothly. When I tried to install, I got the alert saying it couldn't be installed as it was from an unidentified developer — my preferences are set to only install from identified developers. I found this bizarre, since the app is available on the Mac App Store. I will change my preferences temporarily, but I find it frustrating. Having installed it, although it is fairly straightforward even for someone who is not very experienced in graphic design, I found: 1. that it periodically becomes rather unresponsive to clicks — MacBook Air, using trackpad, not mouse; 2. when I saved my file, the Save dialog — in column view — did not respond properly to selection on the left panel … I clicked on Documents, but rather than showing the documents folder directly, it still showed home-folder/Documents/Other folders …, making navigation more difficult 3. having saved my xxx.capp, the app was still marking the drawing as "dirty", with the black spot on the red traffic light, and when closing asked me if I wanted to save the file which I had already saved. I think I will soon manage to tame it, but there seems to be a fair amount of development still necessary.

Thank you for your review and comments. We will look into the issues you described and see if we can replicate them in order to fix them. If you could help us by resending these details via email to kyle at macappware.com, it would be very helpful, in case we need to contact you directly for more details on solving these problems.

I'm with everyone else...looked all over for a video or review but found zip. I don't want to get caught up in a deal where you only have 10 days to take advantage of the $30 price offer and then buy it only to find out the week after come all the videos and reviews you wish you would have seen before you purchased it. You can't make an educated decision. Would be great if they would refund your money after 10 days if you don't like it. I hate "gotcha" situations.

I hear you. Unfortunately Candy Apple has not been reviewed by major sites like Macworld, Maclife, etc. We do have some objective reviews that go into some details on the App Store (Mac App Store, not iOS App Store), and are beginning to work with Mac User Groups to have them review/evaluate the application. Although Many customers have found Candy Apple to be more than adequate for their design needs, there will always be some people it just won't work for (like every other application out there). We are working on a demo version but it won't be available until later this year. If purchased through the MacAppware website we do offer a 30 day refund policy.

Came here to say the same thing. This looks intriguing, but without a review or demo of any kind, I can't decide if I want to pull the trigger on $30.

I can't find any reviews, demos, or information on Candy Apple at 128bit/MacAppware's site! Only on the App Store is there some screen shots. With all the features listed, I would like to try it out or at least read a review from someone who has used it before paying $30.

Sorry about that; it is a brand new release so we haven't had time to get it out to reviewers and are in the middle of creating a demo version.

There have been some good objective reviews on the App Store recently, so please check those out to see what Candy Apple customers think of the application.
