Rename

1.13.0.3.0
15 June 2018

Easily rename multiple files.

Overview

Rename allows you to quickly rename multiple files/folders at once, formatting names and extensions by adding, removing, replacing text, and by numbering. It can be particularly useful at removing "junk" from the names of downloaded files (like music files) giving them better, more readable, names.

Seriously boys and girls, spend about fifteen seconds with Automator and make your own.

Unnecessary. Yosemite has batch file renaming built-in now. Search for it.

@ Wade-Smith: Unfortunately not all of us who have been Mac Addicts since 1984 don't have the mental wiring to tackle Automator or AppleScript. That's me in a nutshell. I know, many who use create Automator scripts all the time or even occasionally have told me how easy it is. For me, it isn't easy. I can't grasp certain concepts, which is a real handicap for me. I know I'm not along. I can, however, get in a Sherman tank (WW2 vintage) and roll over the countryside with the best of them. Doesn't mean I can repair one, though! :-) But your point is indeed well-taken and those who are comfortable with Automator should tackle this problem I have used, and still use, a neat app that's free but discontinued. The good news is you can still download it here: http://mac.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=5574&t=4&i=1 and it will run on 10.9.3 (I just used it earlier today). Using a late 2012 Mac Mini.

Well, with 10.10, all of this is now mostly moot- Yosemite has a file renamer built in, as long as you want to rename more than one file.

There is a similar freeware product also called Rename on this website, and on its own website: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/33659/rename at v1.6.2 by Pathos In fact, search for 'Rename' on MacUpdate brings up the freeware Pathos product, not this shareware product from CodeInventors. Naming / Listing conflict ought to be sorted...
