5.8.1

High-end monitor calibration and profiling.

Overview

basICColor display's ease of use and functionality is unparalleled. 5 pre-defined settings can be used with a mouse-click right from the start page. This covers most situations for which monitor calibration is needed. Parameters for special requirements can be configured for a 6th button. This makes basICColor display the easiest-to-use and most professional software of its class. The optional high-end colorimeter, basICColor DISCUS, offers the precision and stability of a lab-grade instrument for desktop monitor calibration and profiling for the first time ever.

Hardware Calibration
basICColor display 5 calibrates the internal monitor LUTs in suited monitors automatically. This guarantees for the highest precision in luminance, black point, color temperature and gray balance. If the monitor allows for 3D LUT calibration basICColor display 5 uses ICC-profiles to emulate any gamut and thus allows for color correct viewing even with non-color-managed applications like digital video, web design and even medical viewers.

Monitor Validation
After each calibration basICColor display 5 automatically validates the monitor. This helps avoid measurement errors (due to sleep mode or screen savers). And the new basICColor RemindMe lets you set arbitrary times for reminding you of the necessity for validation or re-calibration. basICColor display 5 can then be started right from RemindMe.

Viewing Light Calibration
basICColor display 5 checks ambient light and viewing booths for conformity with the relevant standards. Compatible viewing booths (basICColor diLIGHT, basICColor LEDlight, JUST...) can be controlled automatically in order to achieve the same luminance as the calibrated monitor. Result: softproof and hardcopy proof look identical!

What's new in basICColor display

We have to register on their website just to try the demo? I think I'll pass on that. At this price, I'll just invest in another colorimeter.

Current version is 5.3.0 and the demo can be downloaded from the developer's site without registering: http://www.basiccolor.de/basiccolor-display-5-en/ Click on the "Download MAC" link for the demo. I find this to be the most intuitive and powerful monitor calibration software. basICColor are also very punctual at updating for compatibility with the latest calibration hardware.
