Well when you guys will really have the need to just to talk about an useful application you may eventually give a try to EasyFind, which is actually the best tool for what matters and most important IS FREE this spotlight style has may have some improvements over spotlight but hey anything and any application non apple made has improvements over the originals, what i need is something definitely better then apple's so this remains kinda useless as it just lacks of fundamentals elements

Sheesh! I don't know where you guys are coming from. Mac's search ability is the OS' Achilles heel. Even when I know the exact name, Spotlight, or these third-party alternatives, never bring it to the top of the results list.

EasyFind will find anything. And I mean anything. You might prefer a menubar app - but this sucker will find *anything* on your machine. Period.

Great little app and solid Spotlight replacement. I used to use EasyFind and iFileX to search for hidden/system files which Spotlight was unable to find – I prefer Disklens now! Its small, quick, stable and always available via the menubar (I love and prefer such convenient menulets anyways). The developer is very active and implements feature requests as soon as possible. The new "Reveal in Finder" funktion and the "copy path" functions are great, btw! Karl, thanks for this great piece of code and for adding those features to the current version.

Disklens is an effective search tool. It's fast, it's handy in the menu bar, and it sorts the results in sensible fashion. I ran the trial version for about 10 minutes on my home iMac and then made the easy decision to purchase it. I have now installed it on my office iMac and have already used it for three searches. I asked the developer about an additional search feature and within minutes he got back to me to say he would look into it. Thus, Disklens is the hands of a congenial and responsive developer. Finally, in my view the price is a fair one. I recommend you give Disklens a trial run.

I used it for a bit and I think it's somehow suck such as when I search for some files its name is ####Mail#### and I type "mail" this app never found it. then I type "Mail" so it was found. So I try this on spotlight, whether I type "Mail" or "mail" both OK. I think it was some bug and next version will fix it. Except for this I think this app is good. it's feature rich but I annoyed from its preview window very much.

I often use Find Any File but I'm finding DiskLens to be a very useful tool when I want to locate something quickly. I don't know why people think 3.99 is expensive... it's less than a coffee at FarBucks. Earlier versions did have a little issue with crashes but the last several versions have been very solid. In addition, the Developer microLARGE has been working very hard to quash a few issues. I am impressed with them.

Great little app for finding files, convenient, easy to access in the menu bar and fast; well worth the price. Now, my go-to file finder.

This is a great improvement over Spotlight with lots of control. Dev is quick to respond to questions and has been quite helpful.

I am upgrading my former rating of Disklens, which was based on incorrect information.

The bad rating is so unfair. This app deserves to be ranked highly. I wrote the developer requesting a feature and the next day there was an update with the feature implemented. Now that's customer support.

I don't agree with 'Owltech', works fine for me, in fact I think that it works great. I rate it at a 4 at this time simply because I haven't used it very much yet, but I consider it to be my default search tool. Not cheap, but if it continues to perform as it has I would say that it is good value. Spotlight is good and always available, however DiskLens presents what it has found more easily and comprehensively. Nice work, I expect good things from this developer.

If you say "must be force quit", this means the app actually is running. Disklens does not show up in the dock, however, in the same way as Spotlight does not show up in the dock - Disklens is a menu bar-only application. You should see a "lens over a document" icon in your menu bar. The default shortcut to open the Disklens search window is Shift+Cmd+Space.

The app will not launch for me (OS 10.8.2). It does not show up in the doc, and must be force quit by hunting it down in Activity Monitor. Not fun.
