Some here have a serious misconception about this "service." You are not running the cloud from your desktop - you desktop is the host for the files; "cloud" access is through the Tonido server. A cloud is not just storage and software... it is a service, and your machine is not providing that. It is provide by Tonido and you are dependent upon that, hence the account you set up.
If anyone knows of actual cloud "service" as well software options for personal computers, those should be added to the "similar software" as well.

Excellent app, but i have a few questions that I hope someone would know the answer to: 1. is there a way to configure the software to prevent remote file deletion, and 2. is there a way to clear the recently accessed file list?

I can't add these to the Similar Software section but you could have a look at Tappin and Libox. IDWFT.

Makes my mac seamlessly available with much fuss on my iPad (useful for streaming music, watching my photos etc). Some aspects could be improved a bit, but overall great.

Awesome software for remove file access.
I have huge amount of music collection and Tonido lets me listen to my songs via iPhone app. No more syncing music to the phone :-)
