I woke my iMac from sleep this morning, only to discover that WeatherSimple wasn't working. I went to the Developer's Site, read a few things, and tried the Terminal command suggested. NOTHING worked, so I wrote to the Developer.

I just got a reply, at 10:23 AM today:

WeatherSimple is no longer available. The weather provider that we have been using has pulled their support for the free APIs. We currently have no other weather provider that meets our needs. We hope to find a weather provider with the following requirements:

· Free for non commercial use (so WeatherSimple can be free).

· Worldwide weather support.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.

I meant Weather Simple not WeatherSone (sic) - WeatherZone.

Weather Simple is telling me it is 11 Deg C outside. MenuWeather is telling me it is 9 Deg C outside - the Australian Bureau of Meteorology AND Weatherzone are both teling me it is 4 Deg C outside. Weather Simple is nearly 300% out in its reading of current conditions.

Remember that the city you enter doesn't always mean that's where the weather data is coming from. A lot of these little free programs don't go to the the primary network of localized weather stations but get their data average and aggregated for a country, region, or even continent (because its simpler if not wholly accurate). And a difference between 11 and 4 degrees is not a 300% inaccuracy. And you don't check accuracy by using other applets; you do so by going to your national weather service online and looking up your location.

Well JCH2, when I was a wee lad at school, if you multiplied 4 by three you used to get 12 - most times. That is 300% of 4. 11 is NEARLY 300% of 4, which is what I said. 3X10=30 or 300% of 10. 3X100 =300 or 300% of 100. 3 is 300% of 1.
If an app like WeatherSimple gives a user aggregated data for their country what use is the app? It should say it only provides country aggregated data for each city.
Oh, and another thing, I only REPORTED exactly what the National weather service and Weatherzone were saying at exactly the same time I took the WeatherSimple reading - I did not evaluate the app other than that straightforward report of the recorded temperature by three comparative sources at the exactly the same time. I neither praised WeatherSone nor condemned it.

This is a super program. Simple but not so simple that it doesn't do much. It provides current conditions and a four-day abbreviated forecast, menu bar display, and two cities not your own. I do wish it would display a couple more current conditions—dew point and sunrise-sunset. The reason that use this over MenuWeather (which does offer more information) is RAM usage. WeatherSimple uses around 20 MB while MenuWeather uses a 80 MB!

Very nice, easy to use, easy to read, easy to customize, and relatively lean. Nice job.
