Known Issues
  • Auto Updater does not fully supported. (Update Checker is supported. But you need to download and install new version manually.)
  • Tenfourbird doesn't contains Enigmail add-on since v17.0. It provide separately.

I've been using Tenfourbird exclusively for a few weeks now and have had no issues. It is a bit hard to gauge the performance of an email client, but Tenfourbird 10.0.3_2 feels noticeably more snappy to me than Thunderbird 3.1.20. Anyone who still uses a PPC-based Mac should appreciate the efforts of the person who built Tenfourbird, which is based on TenFourFox, especially now that Mozilla has dropped support for the Thunderbird 3.1 branch.

The anonymous developer of Tenfourbird continues to build on Cameron Kaiser's excellent work on TenFourFox, yielding a very usable email client for users of PPC Mac users. Kudos!

With Postbox Express having thrown any PPC development and support out of the window, and classifying it as officially obsolete, I came on to MU this morning and found this. After unzipping it it asked to populate itself, and then took about a minute to bring over my fifteen email accounts faultlessly. All I had to do was input the passwords et voila. A lot, lot faster to load than PBE, (which in turn was far better than Mac Mail), it's email search engine is blisteringly quick. I also like the very classy read window which offers me the chance to go straight to the owners website link. Plus there's a calendar and to do list built in. Lovely stuff. It's so nice, I'm off to Mozilla to donate. (Setup? Mac PPC G5 1.8ghz dual processor, 4mb ram running OSX 10.5.8).

As a matter of protocol, no developer should simply assume that users know what the software does. A description is always required, followed by claims (to be judged by customers) whether the software fulfills its promise or not.

I see no such statements here, which is either a sign of arrogance or a simple oversight that can be corrected by:

(1) Describe first what Thunderbird is, then
(2) Describe what TenFourBird is, and does, to allegedly improve what Thunderbird does.

It is a big mistake to assume that we know such things. It is the responsibility of the developer to sell his software to us, even if it is free.

Please get down from up there and back away from the computer.

Those who actually use the venerable PPC Macintosh computers know precisely for what purpose Tenfourbird is intended.

Brief background - When Mozilla.org, an open-source developer of software projects such as Firefox (web browser) and Thunderbird (email client), dropped support for an entire generation of highly competent computer processors (PPC) sufficient installed base existed, worldwide, for individuals to port the now intel processor-based Mozilla efforts back onto the PPC platform.

Tenfourbird is a PPC version of Thunderbird v. 31.7

Since our small business (clown makeup) relies on a number of the G5 PPC Macintosh computers it can be reported Tenfourbird is a highly competent email client which is used on a daily basis.

Tenfourbird is a very robust application, indispensable for PPC hold-outs.

Which PPC do you use?

Today, I tried myself at the new 31.6 version, but I found that, just like the previous version, the German language pack 31.0, does not work on this version either. From now on, I will not use this software, because I will not let anyone dictate how to use my software.

If you use a search-engine, you get a solution for this.
In short:
Install the "Tenfourbird-31.0.de.langpack.xpi" with help of the Add-on-Manager and then go to preferences > advanced > config editor ...
Here you search for "general.useragent.locale" and change "en-US" to "de-DE" an restart tenfourbird 31.7.0. thats it.

The most recent update of Tenfourbird, the 31.1.1, is no longer supported by Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. It can no longer download e-mails from my accounts. It works, although a bit slow, especially when downloading pictures in mails, with my Leopard (Mac OS X 105.8).

The most recent update of Tenfourbird is the 3.1.3.0, but the last update of the langage pack is the 31.2.0 in Spanish. Will the other languages get an overhaul, or will the menus only be available in English?

I'm impressed with Tenfourbird 24, which feels more snappy to me than version 17. I reported a pesky menu issue in early November that has since been resolved (thanks again to our anonymous friend in Japan!). I've been using Tfb 24 to access a mix of one POP and three IMAP accounts across three different mail providers for 7+ weeks and it's been very stable. Nice work.

The update to TenFourBird 17 from 10 doesn't seem like that big of a step to me. I have been very happy with the upgrade from TenFourFox 10 to 17 but I can hardly see any improvement in the email app that is an upgrade over the way it was done before. I was hoping for a better tagging system like TFF. Also the inactive tags look a little weird, wonder why they changed that?

Last sentence should have said "inactive TABS" not "inactive tags."

Tenfourbird 17.0b2 may have a larger memory footprint, but some aspects, including searches, feel significantly faster to me than they did in 10.0.10. I will be interested to hear what others think.
