Take notes from the menu bar (was NotesTab Pro).

Overview

MiniNote Pro is an indispensable app and is the easiest piece of software you will ever use. Try it for a day and you'll be hooked for life! This nifty app sits on your Mac's menu bar and is available at the click of a button. It is perfect for jotting down a few lines as well as drafting that essay you've been pushing aside. :)

Unlike other note taking apps, we focused on making a streamlined, practical, and beautiful app that you will find yourself using each and every day. We avoided unnecessary features that may sound cool, but in reality, never get used as they are way too over-complicated.

Excellent little program. I started using it after all my notes in Apple Notes got screwed up following my Mac complete drive cleanup. MiniNote Pro does everything I need. Does not support formatting, only capital letters, and bold, italic, underline. That's FINE, otherwise it would have been super bloated. Highly RECOMMEND!

Activity Monitor shows it consumes most memory of all other applications on my iMac.
That's very bad. Why is that ? FipLab needs to solve this problem. Next is the SEARCH. It's poor. Basic. It doesn't search for a specific word, but the general location it is in.
I'd like to keep using it, but unless these two problems are solved, I'll keep using nvALT and inotepad.
And one more thing, to add NOT markdown, but just to be able to increase the font.
So, after using it on and off for 6 months or so, I only recommend this application for very basic short notes, otherwise it's 2 stars now.

I have a lot of memory hogs but MNP isn’t one of them.

Currently using 36.3 MB memory and 0% CPU.
If I start typing a new note it increases slightly to about 40 MB of RAM and 4% CPU.

FOUR YEARS AGO it was mentioned below that this app can not import notes. AND IT STILL CAN'T!

If your notes database ever becomes corrupted or you need to re-import for any reason, you're SOL.

And v5.0 has a bug that causes deleted notes to be retained in the database. So even though you thought you'd deleted a note, its text is still easily recoverable in the sqlite-wal file - just open in a text editor.
The dev. has acknowledged this bug and says a repair is on the way, but this version has been out nearly 3 months already and this is a critical security bug.

I think I've only tried one other notes app and I do prefer this one. It's convenient and I've had no issues with it crashing or losing notes.

But the inability to import notes is F'D UP!
Since this version retains deleted information, I just had to securely delete the database files. Now I'm unable to import all the notes I exported beforehand.

For that reason this I'm rating it low because that is UNACCEPTABLE and INEXCUSABLE!

And you also can't re-order the notes.
There's no preference to put new notes at the bottom and you can't drag to re-order them.

I have a few notes that I want to always stay at the top of the Favorites list where they can be accessed quickly. But as I add new notes they keep going further down the list.

Seven notes are visible in a list, after that you have to scroll to find the old ones.

This app could be very useful, but its lack of features and a nasty bug render it inadequate for the job. It seems like it's only half-finished.

I rated it 1.5 stars, but the half disappeared.

The window position is still not kept.
This bug came as a regression a few versions ago and is still present.

And hierarchical notes... Or some way o making folders/projects with subnotes. Access to the system's Fonts and Colors would be cool..

I agree with this point. but I honestly wanted as SIMPLE a note taking app as possible. All of those other things can be done wither evernote/wunderlist. The simplicity of this app is its selling point in my mind

This is my basic notepad of choice for now for a simple reason, it can float above other windows in fullscreen without needing the Afloat app (SIMBL) which has become unstable (I got rid of all things SIMBL). I've tried MAAANYYY notepads over the years, my first requirement with the advent of fullscreen apps (which I love) iis that it floats so I can really take notes or read them, copy/paste etc as I work in "bigger" software. And most just don't... Float on top pf FS apps that is. Even the Mac Stickies don't.. how useless is that !! This app here could be improved in all sorts of ways.. the look and especially the organisation of notes/subnotes/folders/projects etc.. but hey.. it floats (did I mention it ?!!! lol), to me it's the point of a notepad. Otherwise of course there are plenty more exciting writing/notes tools for advanced usage like Ulysses or VoodooPad or Tree or Evernote etc etc etc etc etc.

How many ways to take notes? I probably have 5 or 10 on my machine. They compete for my attention. This one is pretty good, I like it - even though I don’t use it very well. It is so convenient, it gives me another place to clutter up. On my desktop its conveniently THERE in a flash. Some of the others are too, but this one doesn’t go “out of sight, out of mind."
