2.7.5
10 October 2019

Turn your Mac into an Internet-connected, motion-sensing security system.

Overview

iSentry Pro is a webcam security system which can be used to instantly turn your computer-with-web-camera into a motion-sensing security system. Just launch iSentry Pro, point your camera to the region you want to monitor, and prepare to receive a video or photo should any motion activity be detected.

With a wide selection of settings, iSentry Pro allows you to configure the quality of pictures and video clips, enable sound and alerts, and receive email notifications about the events detected. You can also set up a recording schedule, using your IP camera as a video-input device.

What's new in iSentry Pro

Version 2.7.5:
  • Switched to direct email sending via user's mail provider using SMTP. You will need to update your email sending settings after upgrading. Documentation here.

I'm comparing this FREE program to a trial version of SecuritySpy $50 shareware. ISentry wins the price war. ISentry lacks a camera control panel for setting brightness, contrast, saturation, etc. ISentry camera selection was "hidden" in the menubar icon, while most of the controls are right on the preview image window. ISentry does NOT allow you to close the preview window. ISentry uses more processor power than SecuritySpy does. I would like to see the ability to run the program with the preview window closed, One video file per day option, date/time/camera information overlaid on the recording, and better video file naming. I was very impressed by the install, run, and done simplicity of this program with the MINOR issue of finding how to select from a different camera also connected to the computer. One issue with the stability arose when I disconnected an, unrelated, USB item. ISentry switched back to the built in ISight.

I see nothing in the program that allows uploading anywhere but to the local drive. I had an old paid version, around 2008, I think, that allowed uploading to FTP. But nothing in iSentry free now.

Almost as good as onCue... I think there should be an option to record audio and pictures, and I think video quality is way too low. Also it doesn't stop recording after being triggered, which would be of much use. Overall, a better detection setting interface and a much higher video quality is all I need to give this a 5 star!

Actually, it does stop after the motion sensor threshold is crossed. For $29.99, you can upgrade to Pro -- which gets you those higher resolutions you want plus the ability to schedule it and the ability to use *a* (compatable) network camera.

Woohoo?

Heads up: the "Developer Website" that MUD has posted will get you to what appears to be Us/Russian co-op of independent developers with absolutely NO links to specific developers or apps.

Frankly, I would suggest looking at the real iSentry website for better info:

lol .. they might be winning the price war, only they may die of starvation due to not being able to afford any food? :D Don't get me wrong .. I like a freebie too, only I don't have a problem with Devs charging a few bucks so they can at least survive to maintain and upgrade their software. We need these people alive.
