I approached DVDFab with caution, given everything that I read here. My impression is a rather good surprise so far: the trial works, and DVDFab managed to rip, convert, compress a Blu Ray Disc that MakeMKV could not. I am still in trial mode, and haven't decided yet whether I'll buy or not. DVDFab is indeed expensive but it seems to do what it says it does

Hi, Just wanted to make you aware that this software might be of questionable privacy respect. Here's why I would like to stress it : When DVDFab still was at version 8.X (so a LONG LONG time ago) I bought Blu-Ray Copy and Blu-Ray Ripper. But I didn't renew the subscription and so haven't used it in over a year or so. A few days ago, I installed MacOsX 10.11 on my MacPro. It has been a clean install : all hard drives in that computer are either new or have been low-level formatted. I wanted to see if the new DVDFab would work on El Capitan and see if it has improved. So I downloaded the latest version of DVDFab (currently 9.1.2.5) and installed it on my MacPro. Installation asks for no login or password or any other way to identify the user. To my really great surprise, on first connection, I was taken to a window stating that my subscription has expired... so I can't get to the trial version and I am summoned to upgrade or buy the software. So my question is : how can Fengtao know that it is me connecting ? I think there are only 2 explanations : - 1°) Fengtao keeps log of IP addresses and relates them to customer ; - 2°) DVDFab looks for some information on your computer to identify you. Either way, I really do think that, especially coming from a chinese company, this is really frightening if you're concerned about your privacy. I of course have sent a mail to Fengtao to know what they have to say about it. Needless to say I haven't got any answer. I will try to post on their forums about it... but knowing their way to handle those things, I have small hope that my post will remain online more than 3 hours. Regards.

Made In China. 100% FAKED 5-star reviews for it's freeware 'DVDFab Media Player', at least IMHO. I smell The 'MacKeeper Effect' stench. Touching this software with a 10 foot pole is NOT something I would consider. You have been warned.

I liked it when it actually decrypted. Now it no longer decrypts. So those of us who paid hundreds of dollars are now left with a worthless POS. Stay away at all costs. They do offer an "add on" that will decrypt,as you use DVDFab at: http://www.woookao.cn However, I'm not sure why this is done. Since they are in China, I doubt they are being threatened by the U.S. I do find the ".cn" suffix on the web address interesting though. It makes me think that DVDFab is offering the add-on, but then again this add-on supports oath software too. Who knows, but this is irritating, especially after hundreds of dollars being spent.

I have used DVDFab on PC and Macs for years for ripping DVDs. It is not a particularly attractive interface and the availability of a large number of modes can be confusing. However, it works very well, and is well supported. It handles encryptions well and manages to get through damaged disks well. It has succeeded in cases where Handbrake, eg, failed. I only own the "copy" version. If I only want an MP4 backup, I rip to a video folder and then use Handbrake to convert. HB can do this in one step, but in my experience DVDFAB is more reliable in decrypting and handling damage.

My father made the mistake of buying this piece of garbage, it doesn't work as advertised and what it does do it does poorly. Similarly, it's a nightmare to completely uninstall. I spent the better part of weekend trying to get it to work for him--and then the following Saturday getting it completely off of his computer. Stay as far away from this piece of garbage as you can.

The new update can only be downloaded from the link, not so convenient. Can they do something to make the updated version available automatically? Even so, the multiple UI languages for choice is not bad for one can rip a disc no matter where does it come from, very handy and really save some works. It seems the ripper would convert DVD to MP4 files to play on ios mobile devices, sounds very attractive to me. But one thing: remember to disable the background running tasks to make sure the ripper runs properly. That’s it. Anyway, it’s a practical one for most users.

Feels like not so compatible with a Mac for you have to shut down and restart the machine. Some discs were simply unplayable, which is a big bug for me. I think it’s more like a PC thing.

I've made a huge mistake buying this app and now I want to warn You not to do this. This is why: 1. All DVDFab programs are secured with erroneous activation launcher, which needs constant Internet connection to their servers. It works well when you use English locale setting in OS X, but may give strange results with other languages. It didn't worked with my locale at all. I couldn't activate my purchase and unlock DVDFab until I switched to English. This glitch is quite easy to workaround, but there are much worse problems with DVDFab... 2. They advertise DVDFab as "most full-featured and powerful video converter on Mac OS". Well, that just not true. Advertised OpenCL capability is simply not there, the same is with Nvidia CUDA. All you can count on is plain raw CPU encoding. And here you will get exactly the same performance as in all other media coders: Handbrake, Permute, iFFmpeg etc.). Most of them you will get for free. 3. When you pay for any DVDFab product, your licence is good FOR A YEAR. After that period you have to PAY AGAIN to use once bought app. And you may pay even when do not want to, because they make your payment renewing automatically!!! Without asking! If you will not switch off automatic renew on Avangate website (payment operator) or your card expire in the meantime, then you will be charged again! 4. They are not accepting refunds. Just that. Because not. And they're Chinese, so if you are unhappy customer (like me), then just say sayonara to your money.

This is a truly hideous PC port, with absolutely no effort made to improve on the 1990s-style UI. It hard crashed my (very stable) iMac, something that hasn't happened in a year. Is this what they deal with on the PC side?? Yuk. My advice: Stay away!!!!!

Crap, crap, crap. Needs activation to run trial but developer's server is not so responsive, so sometimes you get error message even before app actually starts! But wait! When it finally starts, it says that's not compatible with OS X 10.8 ML!

Get makeMKV instead it's updated more frequent, has more function and is cheaper!
