I started using FMDiff in 2007. It quickly became an essential part of my FileMaker development environment. When I'm making changes to an existing database, I'll often use FMDiff to compare my latest database files to "before" copies of the files to quickly review the changes. This is especially the case when Ive made numerous changes to database fields, scripts and custom functions. Likewise, when a database feature stops working, FMDiff can identify all changes between the a previous version and the current version,, saving a LOT of tedious inspection and interactive debugging. From time to time, FMDiff will report hidden corruption in an apparently valid FileMaker file, allowing small problems to be corrected before they become bigger problems.

2 scenarios: • billing - if a client wants to see what has been done to his file/solution to accomplish his request i can print a report of what has been altered • forensics - if a client tells me the file has never been crashed or changed besides data entry i can inspect by comparison to the version i originally delivered
