TeXworks is a project with the effort to build a simple TeX front-end program (working environment) that will be available for all today's major desktop operating systems.

Make the text cursor width customizable
Add support for environment variables in paths to typesetting tools

Only reload a file if its content changed (this improves support for network shares, cloud services, etc.)
