yType saved me some serious time when I was creating language files and they all needed to be a specific format. I don't find myself typing the same things all that often, but when I do this app is easily worth every penny and more in the time it saves me. I haven't used some of the other "Similar Software" titles so I can't do a comparison and haven't really needed to since this app is what I needed right out of the gate.

I really like it. It does what it says. Some quirks still to fix maybe. But with time this app could become a serious competitor to TextExpander and the like.

I use it on my private MacBook. At work I can't because this app requires support for assistive devices to be enabled. And that is allegedly a potential security risk, the admin told me (key loggging, GUI scripting or something like that). A shame 'cause it's a really decent application.

I was indeed impressed by it's demo. And immediately I purchased this tiny software! With a little hiccup it was finally registered. But the result is disappointing Whatever whether it's a simple text or picture the shortcuts do not stay on. Within an hour or so they just disappear from the yType box. It's frustrating to configure again and again. I wrote to the customer support of the company and so far I have not received any acknowledgement leave alone help!

I installed that program and it looked like it was doing what I want it to do. Simply write the text that I type as shortcut.
After testing with some entries I bought it and I started to fill the database for more than 45 min. until it suddenly closed itself (crash) and after opening it again, all I had entered as new was gone.
The value of the time I´ve lost is much more than what the program cost.

"A new productivity tool"?
IIRC, yType has been around for many years. When Plum was still called ScriptSoftware yType's requirements were "Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4" I believe it used to be bundled with CopyPaste.
Regarding the price, Macupdate says it's free, but Plum's website indicates it costs $10.
I can't offer a review since now it's Intel-only.

Registration doesn't stick, need to reregister every launch ;( Need's an import from TextExpander feature.

When using shortcuts to fill out forms u have to use space to activate the shortcut but if you use the tab key the shortcut ends up in the wrong field.

I am a big fan of Plum Amazing but yType needs some serious work to catch up with it;s competitors. I am confident that all will be addressed because Plum Amazing is great company.

Developer promptly contacted me. Apparently I was using a beta version and after updating the registration is working properly.

I really like the simplicity of yTypes interface and how well it works.

Do you get tired typing the same url, address or response letter all the time? Save hours of time, typing hundreds of characters and the strain on your hands, eyes and brain of doing the same thing over and over. This is what computers are for. Use yType and type a few letters and a space to pop into any document a word, a sentence, a page, 20 pages or even more instantly. Use yType to 'do less and accomplish more'.

Another way that yType can save time is in typing symbols and other difficult to find unicode characters. Make up your own unique shortcut names like vcheckmark to expand to the symbol " or vheart for ♥, vcent for ¢, veuro for €, vblackknight for ♞, vyinyang for ☯, vumbrella for ☂, vc for ©, vr for ®, vtm for ™, etc... yType makes all symbols much easier to use.

Do you have Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia? That is the fear of long words. yType is the cure for this dreaded disease which afflicts children like the Hawaiian boy whose name is Kananinoheaokuuhomeopuukaimanaalohilo. yType would allow him to type just 'ka' and a space or return to expand his whole name instantly saving him thousands of hours he might otherwise spend during his lifetime just typing his own name.

Features:
  • works in the background and accelerates anyones typing.
  • create a shortcut (a few letters) which when typed will enter large blocks of text or pictures and formatted text in any mac application.
  • copy and paste or drag in the blocks of text, pictures or formatted text.
  • use variables to insert the month, day, year, time, cursor, timezone.
  • embed one variable/shortcut within another.
  • search thru all shortcut/expansion pairs.
  • select text and hit hotkeys to open yType and create a shortcut.
  • localized and manuals available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, and Russian. Please help us add your language.
  • YType is free to download and try and never stops working.
