I had to pay 29,95 Euro for a RAR Lab license in order to be able to compress to Rar format. Could I have saved myself some money by simply buying a $9,95 license to ArchiveMadness?

As far as I know Rar uncompressing is free, but compressing to Rar isn't.

You can only expand rar archives. Sorry, it was a mistake in app discription.

IMHO you're better off moving to a open format like 7z - I used to have all my stuff compressed in rar back in the days when there was a definitive size difference but how with the improved algorithm provided by 7z the difference is so small any advantage of rar pretty much has ceases to exist.

I think it's awesome. The only thing - it's a real madness to make a service's default shortcut Command-W - close window - took me a while to figure out what was causing all the Command-W shortcuts to be disabled.

Krystof Vasa, thank you for your feedback. Problem with shortcuts is already in our todo list ( http://tickets.macinapp.com ) and we work on it.

The most overpriced and badly named archiving app that I'll ever NOT use (since so many far better apps are available for free).

PorkPiiHat, how can you write about app bad review if you haven't try it. Why do you think that it's overpriced?

PorkPieHat replied on 20 May 2011
As I said, Macinapps, when there are several similar, well-functioning freeware apps readily available, it's crazy to price this one at $20. If it were priced at $5 or even $10, then I'd just ignore it without comment. But when I see a new contender come along who prices his/her app at a level that I'd consider excessive even if there weren't equally good free ones available, it's difficult to refrain from commenting.

So, in a crowded product category, excessive pricing alone is sufficient reason to comment without test driving it.

And BTW, there are plenty of other people here who would have commented similarly AND given it a one-star rating. But in this case, I felt that would have been unsportsmanlike.

PorkPieHat, you are not right at all. Developer try to create archiver with some new features which are not available in free version. For instance, cataloging archives, uploading it via email, preview archives without extracting, etc. If you don't want to use this kind of features, please, don't use, btw you shouldn't write here that it's very bad application.

I can't believe what I am reading. The quality of a software and its price should be viewed separately. What it is worth will be determined by market forces, not by someone who thinks in the cheap and expects developers to donate their time for free.

Absolutely the worst review I've ever read. If you're going to write a review, at least try the software... which is what I am doing BEFORE I WRITE A REVIEW.

Look at just about every review he's ever written. About 90% of them are negative. He calls people names. He's rude and childish is his reviews. Just ignore him... maybe he'll go away. But then again, maybe not.

Peachtreecity, it's not a review, it's a comment, and all the gnashing of teeth here about a measly comment that the app is overpriced is bizarre. You people really need to find a hobby, a lover or something, and then climb out of my ass.

Thank you PorkPieHat for proving my point. You are a childish troll who gets his jollies by offending and insulting people. Time to put on your big boy pants and mature a little.
