It's OK, just to simple and plain for that price. Doesn't catch info from iMDB, can't monitor folders for new items, can't select the screenshot for preview frame, can't specify double click action, etc.

I've been searching for an alternative to Adobe Bridge to manage my growing video file collection. Cinematica is fantastic except for one missing feature which for me is really very important; to be able to easily filter by date created. I know that I can create a Smart Collection and then use the appropriate criteria but even that is not very straightforward. There is no equal to operator which means I have to create two criteria to filter to a specific date. If you can add the feature to be able to filter by date, I'd immediately buy Cinematica! Thanks!

I've added your request to our "to do" list. We should be able to add this in an upcoming minor release... at least by adding an "equal to" in the date criteria.

Cinematica is a fantastic video manager. I am very fond of the storyboard feature. Retina images look stunning. Unfortunately, I have a small monitor and I couldn't find a way to hide the sidebar and the left and right shelves to have a complete view of them, so they appear incomplete. Other than that, every feature is spot on.

We are working on collapsing the properties column (far right). Collapsing the filter column, because it is in the middle of the window, is quite a bit more challenging. Thank you for the feedback on this.

dealing with large libraries in Cinematica is a pain too. Relinking thousands of files takes forever.

There is a huge need for something in this area, and I purchased this. Pretty impressive overall but is missing a couple key features that if implemented would be huge. 1) The ability to relink files. For instance, when working at the office some video files are attached via USB drive. However, when I arrive home they are on a network share. I'd like to be able to relink(similar to how Final Cut does it). 2) Use QuickLook within the app instead of launching Qucktime or the Finder. Other than those 2 features, this is a great app and has a lot of promise. Nice work, guys.

The first of these will be included in the forthcoming 3.0. The second one is being looked at, but the OS can't handle all the same formats that something like VLC can.

It's a very cool feature that you can drag'n drop movie files onto the Cinematica-window and it reads out information like size, duration, resolution, etc. That's exactly what I need, for I am collecting mainly documentaries from the german Mediatheken, were the stations provide many of their broadcasts for a limited time. It would be great to have a list (Excel o.e.) containing these information to keep an overview not only if I already own this file but also to check if it is only existing in a lower resolution. Unfortunately Cinematica comes with no export-ability at all. But the developers promised some month ago that this is a planned feature.

Hi. Not really a review because I just decided against purchasing this based on the comments. I'd love something to help me catalog my digital movies. Even better still, something which would let me to a "screen cap" while the movie's playing. Right now, I'm alphabetized A – Z via EXCEL (groan) and am waiting for something where I can list the movies, director, actors, year, titles etc, AND keep the movies stored. Currently, a listing on my blog helps me when making purchases, and I just keep all my movies on an external hard drive OR TWO!!! Rooting for you guys. Would purchase at this price, but thought better of it. Sorry.

Why did you nail the developer with 2.5 stars? Did you even try this?

I am perhaps naive, but I assumed that this app was capable of renaming a movie file, but that is not the case. Also there is no help menu or documentation, as far as I know. I agree with the reviewer that this app is not worth the money I paid for.

Cinematica does not move or modify any of your video files. We are looking at an option that would allow it to do this like iTunes does. We feel that the app is very intuitive, but will add a help system with the next release. If you have specific questions, please feel free to write to our support and we will respond to you promptly.

I have been using this app for a year or two. I bought version 1. How ever had issues with it consuming all the memory. Then version 1.1 was released and the app then performed as advertised and was vey good you use. Now version 2 has been released and the same issues prevail. It consumes all memory and renders the computer unusable. I have emailed support who are very responsive and obliging and want to do all they can to help. So I expect I’ll get a response very soon, But I expect I’ll be waiting for version 2.1 before I can utilise version 2s new functions.... But otherwise this is a VERY useful media manager when it works....

Yes indeed you have and very promptly too. I have isolated the issue to a hung task. Cinematica Importer FF was hanging and stopped the import and the app and indeed the entire computer eventually. The next time I launched Cinematica it was still trying to import files and hung the app again but this time I just force quit the FF importer task and the app sprung to life and processed over 1500 files with in minutes. Very impressive. Eventually I worked out how to add the FFMPEG and FFPROBE files. So it may yet process the files still left in the queue unless they simply cant be found. But most of all I would like to see an auto save function added to this app. I’ve spent days importing files in to version 1 with the computer running 24/7 not realising that you have to manually save OFTEN, If you don’t and the app crashes as version 1.0 did a lot (Fixed in vers 1.1) you will loose everything done since your last successful save. And in our case it was days worth of work. We are much wiser now and save after every single import ... during even with this version. But despite this this is a very useful application and makes browsing your media files a lot easier and also helps finding duplicates ... I like it a lot. thank you for your very prompt support.

Well the developer has been very quick to respond and offer support to resolve the issues we were having and we now have the application working. Its very fast at importing and processing files and there are many improvements. We are now going to take some time getting to know its new functions and to test it.

Can someone please explain what this software does - without resorting to flyer-speak; the ad agency noise that string buzzwords together & says very little?

Cataloging your video collection. So far its not caught my attention. Why do I need to have a detailed catalog of movies?

The ad shows purchased movies. I don’t have a deep-seated need for a purchased video database. What does this do for me in terms of many video files I generated myself, if anything?

Kihoalu, Cinematica is specifically designed to organize and detail the videos that you have generated yourself, or have downloaded from online sources. You can download the app for free to try out, then just drag your videos into it.

We suggest you visit the Cinematica page on our site to download ffmpeg and ffprobe which will expand the number of video formats the app supports.
