OS X desktop/workspace switcher.

Overview

SaneDesk is a very easy to use OS X Desktop/Workspace switcher. With SaneDesk, desktop icons and wallpaper are under total control.

Desktop is the only place where you can visually organise files and folders. Using muscle memory to access your files and folders is a brilliant way to work, usually much faster that when you use Finder and regular non-desktop folders. Sadly, with too many icons, folders or projects you're working on at the same time, desktop soon goes out of control. Not to mention moments when you don't want any icons on your desktop - moving them away, even temporarily, completely erases your hard work organising them. SaneDesk can hide all icons and show them all later, perfectly preserving their positions.

Wallpaper should reflect what you do. We don't want to use the same backgrounds for our work or play time. With SaneDesk you can assign specific wallpaper for every aspect of your work or play.

Standard desktop always stays the same, no matter what you do: wallpaper and desktop icons do not change. What if you could change them on the fly, depending on what you want to do? Hide desktop icons entirely or show them all? That would be like adding entirely new dimension (of sanity) to your regular workflow. You could have separate workspace for work, another one for the entertainment, you could even have separate workspace for each project you are working on.

SaneDesk workspace is another layer on top of the regular Mac desktop / spaces paradigm. It allows you to assign specific icons to be visible and positioned when workspace is selected. All SaneDesk functions are easily accessible by clicking on SaneDesk menu bar icon.

Instead of juggling numerous icons on your desktop, squeezing them in so they stay in sight but don't get in the way, you should try out SaneDesk.

  • Create any number of virtual workspaces.
  • Each workspace can have its own icons.
  • Each workspace can have its own background.
  • Switch to any of the workspaces to see only the icons that belong there.
  • Use global shortcut support to switch to any of the workspaces or access SaneDesk functions.
  • You can add new workspaces, rename or delete old ones at any moment.
  • Seven days completely functional time trial.
  • Best part? Files and folders never leave desktop. They are not modified in any way, just not visible if they are not needed and perfectly positioned if you want to see them.

SaneDesk does not modify, move or copy your desktop files and folders at all. As soon as you exit SaneDesk, all files and folders will be visible again, no matter to what workspace they were assigned. You can even open file that is assigned to some other workspace, using recent files list from any application. If you use SaneDesk your files and folders remain completely safe.

Sorry guys, clumsy developer testing MU interface and it seems there is no way to remove review. Oh well, it IS five star app, just wish you don't think it was intentional click :)

5 Stars if it could switch between my large monitors and my lap top monitor and keep the background at full screen. Otherwise, I really love this tool

Have had the program for 2-3 years and LOVE it. All of a sudden it disappeared. After trying lots of potential solutions I trashed it and repurchased the app ( thinking my copy had been damaged ). Brand new copy will not run. Have tried - and failed to get help from developer. Not even a return email or phone call. Very disappointed with lack of support. Version 2.2 on Mac mini 10.12.6

I got this a while back, in a bundle, and had never gotten around to installing it until about a month ago. Despite the most recent comment, I installed it on my 10.10.5 system (never did go to El Capitan, but will probably go to Sierra). I HOPE this will work with Sierra when I go there - I can't imagine how I got by all this time without it. I absolutely love this app for what I do - and particularly love the function of being able to drag from one workspace to another in the menu bar. To the developer - PLEASE keep going with this!

Am using this since August. The idea is good, but the app is not completely stable. Wrote the developer about an item and the only answer was: it works fine for thousands of users. Seems that the first problem has been solved, but even today there are problems. I made a new folder on my desktop and SaneDesk doesn't show that folder, not even in 'Show All Icons'. Perhaps after a logout and login or after a restart, but that shouldn't be necessary. Bought it in a MacUpdate Promo, happily. The normal price is far too high, at least in this state of development.

I was lucky enough to get this app through AppSocial. My iMac (combined with my MacBook Air) is my play and work station. If you're like me and enjoy having a clean slate to work from, one set up for exactly what YOU need, then SaneDesk is a noteworthy app to try. Currently I have four workspaces set up; 1) Play 2) Work 3) Graphic Design 4) Correspondence (I do a lot of emailing a day with notes saved to the desktop for certain contacts.) This has helped me keep clutter out of my stream lined work flow. I no longer am tempted to play Angry Birds when I'm writing a report. (Well, I am but not as much as usual!) The only draw back (hence the 3.5 star rating) is that it does not handle the dock. I would absolutely love a feature where the dock is also changed when changing work spaces. This way, each work space has it's own unique dock. I.e., my graphic design work space can have Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, etc., and my "play" work space with Twitter, Steam, and anything else. Overall, I really enjoy it. It's not heavy on resources either which is a plus on my now aging iMac. I also like the fact that each work space can be defined with it's own wallpaper! I've created unique wallpaper for each space. Snazzy!

I'd say it's a stable, good, first rev. Needs some added features and improvements: Features: should be able to assign applications to particular desktops also (like Hyperspaces did for Snow Leopard) Improvements: 1) add color to menu icon 2) allow shortcuts to use top row numbers on keyboard 3) Make it clearer how to add reg code (not "Purchase" from "About" menu) 4) If enter wrong reg code info, return to reg screen. Don't exit back to desktop. 5) allow changing of shortcut without exiting "Edit Current Workspace" 6) allow dock icon and ctrl-clicking for changes to desktops This is running on Mavericks
