Finally something I can use to keep track of our pet birds. This is fabulous. Clear interface, simple work flow. I highly recommend it.

The $18 needs some clarification: 1. The trial is limited to some number of animals. I've seen the number vary with each version. 2. $18 actually depends on the exchange rate for Australian Dollars. 3. Lion and older OS: runs with no limitations. Visit the developer's website for details Also note that it has versions for multiple platforms. The registration "key" and the data files are not platform specific -- which means I can work my wife's BrandX OS files on my Mac.

Just gets better. NOTE the "intel" thing here isn't exactly right -- matching PPC version (along with Win and Linux) is available at the developer's website.

Seems like it's a good application, but it keeps crashing on me. It seems random and difficult to duplicate each crash. It doesn't happen on its own, but when I click on something. One time it was clicking on an animal's name. The next time I clicked on the same animal's name the operation was fine. Another crash was trying to add a mating. I'd love to use this program, but can't seem to go more than 2-3 minutes without a crash. Any others with the same problem? I don't have my system tricked out. I'm running 10.6.8.

That's unusual, if the program crashes intermittently when an operation is performed but doesn't crash other times with the same operation it could be a system error which can be quite hard to track down. Be sure to setup your database in the correct order so Kintraks has the information it needs to perform other functions eg. Create a database, enter all the compulsory User Settings and Save, Add all your records ensuring a name and sex is entered. Then you can use the Matings functions etc.

There has been major updates to Kintraks recently to make it compatable for Mac Lion. The program is now compiled differently for Intel processors and as a result is now more stable. Kintraks is now available as separate downloads for Intel Macs as well as older PPC.

Indeed, it is far more stable now, and useable. I've just tried recreating my database and had no crashes during the first 2 entries. Previously, I would have had several crashes. It's MUCH better now, thank you so very much! [OSX 10.6.8, Kintracks 3.01.06 Core 2 Duo 1.83 MHz iMac]

Year and a half later --- nothing else really compares. Went ahead and registered my wife's PC version (even though she doesn't have 60 critters) to support it.

Nicely done for the Mac. Plus side: Lots of species -specific built-ins (breeding/weaning calendaring, etc), features for health, treatments, photos, genealogy, accounting and more. Minus side: different data base for each species. Soooo --- if you do chickens, goats, sheep, horses, and cattle --- you will have 5 databases to work with. Entertainment point: I tried this thing on my PPC to see if my farm hobbiest wife could use it. I downloaded it on her 64 bit WinVista machine and it crashes there. (teehee). I'll follow up on that, when I can.

The different database (minus) is actually a big plus for many people. It means one breeder can breed different animals with a different stud name, breeding particulars, pedigree background, layout etc. and share just the related data with other breeders of that animal. It also reduces database size making opening and searching large amounts of data much quicker. Switching databases takes only a second and without leaving the program. It really is no bother at all considering the advantages. You are also not required to outlay for a separate version to accommodate a new species as with other programs. I'll have a look at the Windows version playing up on 64 bit Vista. (yes teehee for Mac users). Thanks for the feedback.

I beg your pardon! There has never been a charge for the Mac version of Kintraks, only for the Windows version. Not only is it free but there is no nag screens, delays, spam lists or any obligation to buy, forever. Updates are regular with plenty of new feature and completely free to all users and everybody receives my absolute attention and 100% free support.

Duly noted. I added your program to my list of useful free software. Might drive a couple of users a year to your site (Big Whoop). AND I gave you four "100%" ratings and a very positive comment on your sites' Web of Trust http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/kintraks.com Scorecard Five of 5 stars.

This is the first really good animal program I've found that actually runs properly on a Mac so some congratulations are in order fro the author. And of course what better program than a free program which does everything the expensive ones does. The program is fairly self explanatory which is good because the help file is quite basic, although a more comprehensive one is promised soon. There's obviously a lot of more advanced features contained within such as an inbreeding calculator but no info on how to use them. Still as a record system which keeps all the main animal details plus twelve more of my own creation and allows you to customise your pedigree layout i don't think you'll find better than Kintracks. Grouches - It doesn't open in full screen, i have to maximise it each time I open and then it doesn't remember how i had it last time. The fonts seem a little small and apostrophes look weird but i do like the way it lists previously used choices at the top of lists. The icons look crap, too big and ugly.
