Spotlight for the Internet.

Overview

Search It... You press a hot key and a search field pops up. It's always and everywhere available and does not change your space. You type, you press enter and your favorite browser shows you the search results. Think of Spotlight for the internet.

What's new in Search It

Version 1.1.4: Added iTunes support

You can now do full text searches in iTunes. Doing so Search It will let iTunes playback the first found item that matches your search string. All fields (like artist name, album name, genre, etc.) are searched.

Eg. Searching for \'ace of spades\' will (most likely) play the song \'Ace of Spades\' by \'Motorhead\'.

Please note:
This feature is still in development and will be polished up for version 1.2 (I\'m planning to display a drop down list of all matching songs and you will be able to choose which one to play.)

Handy little app. Does precisely what it says, which is provide an instant field to enter a search or URL. It's even slightly faster than using LaunchBar or Quicksilver to do the same thing because you don't have to enter any letters for the search template. What would make this app really cool is drop down search results à la Glims or Inquisitor. By the way, the default shortcut for this app is set to Option-Esc, which, if I'm not mistaken, is the shortcut for text completion in Cocoa apps. I recommend changing it to avoid conflict.

Try as I might, with each and every attempt to obtain an update to this app, both from the furnished MacUpdate and fluxforge links, I keep getting this error: This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. Slick, fast, easy to use and customize. Already has saved me a lot of time in just the first day of use (yes, I have Launchbar, and my browsers are set up with short-cuts) but as the previous reviewer says, this is even faster. And, its' free! You can't have too many good tools for the job, I say.
