To my big surprise 3.5.2. was released yesterday. I installed this version from scratch and restored a backup. All slates were set to zero, despite showing the correct references and bottles. as they refuse to provide support, app was deleted at once.

Be careful with this software!!! Either the developers are crooks, or they are respectable people who are completely incompetent programmers. The software was very good up through version 3.4. But this version didn't run under El Capitan, and it took them 6 months to come out with 3.5. Now if you try to import the 3.4 database into 3.5, a great deal of information gets garbled or lost. It's basically useless. It's obvious from the comments on their Facebook page that their customers all feel jilted, and it's also obvious that they don't care, because they are completely unresponsive to attempts at contact. They turned good software into useless junk, have alienated their customers, and apparently they couldn't give a sh_t. Hands off!!

Avoid 3.5 as the pest. It is buggy, does not import your old references without faults and does not sync to iOS version 3. (see for more info and user experiences here: https://www.facebook.com/VinotekaMac/) Still no support too....

As written about two months ago on their website Vinoteka compatible updates for both 10.11 and iOS 9 would be released yesterday December 21. See below for the complete text: "SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT24/10/2015 As Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan and iOS 9 have drastically changed, Vinoteka Mac and Vinoteka Touch also have to change! We are currently doing our best to make sure both apps remain as operational and great as usual and we will release on December 21st 2015 new major versions fulfilling all expectations. As the process might seem long, we want to make sure that those coming versions will be fully tested, bug free, as enjoyable as possible and bring a wealth of highly expected features. Your satisfaction matters the most and we want to keep on releasing high-quality apps. We are aware Vinoteka Mac doesn’t launch on El Capitan and that Vinoteka Touch doesn’t work properly on iOS9 and we have been working on improvements for a few months from now. We truly apologise for the current inconvenience and we thank you for your patience and your trust in our products, which we highly value. You can nevertheless carry on using current versions on lower OSs. The VinotekaSoft Team" Considering the cheating info that two months ago all software was under validation at Apple, I already expected no new updates were released on december 21. I was right and it shows how these devs are lying to and fooling around with their customers leaving them in the cold. Worst is that they make no efforts to further communicate to us.. I use Macs since 1986 but never experienced this....

The story on Vinoteka conitues: Two weeks ago we got the info on Twitter that iOS and OS X apps were in review.

https://twitter.com/Vinoteka/status/653200787649228800

apps are under review, thanks for your trust. Second, we still need to polish the non MAS version

As the current review time is 7 days, I send @Vinoteka last week a message on the current status of the review. I never got a reply.

Yesterday they send tweets and info on Facebook with an important message:

Well, well. So at the end we can not use Vinoteka on both iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 and they fooled us with telling the apps were in review. Now they try to tell that “OS 9 and OS X 10.11 have drastically changed”

Ridiculous to believe their nonsense after months of waiting and I predict we get new info in December that they stopped developing.

Thanks for the tipoff, @Mhoutman; I'm about to upgrade to 10.11; what actually happens with Vinoteka 3.4.8? Is it definitely completely incompatible, please?

@Msealey here is my complete story.

I follow and use Vinoteka for years now and really love their software despite the fact that since 10.10, syncing to iOS became a nightmare.

As i was just to set up my 10.10 systems for 10.1 when I read about Office 2016 not being compatible with 10.11 at all. (I depend heavily on Outlook Mac )

Then I took a peek on other software I use which had no update for a while and found a tweet from someone who tweeted to Vinoteka about their app crashing on 0.11: https://twitter.com/raphaeI/status/649996867690987520

Last but not least I had a look in the French MAS where also two other people wrote about Vinoteka NOT working in 10.11.

Above made me write my warning., yet I ask you to contact Vinoteka support themselves and ask the same.

What feels very strange its that their former founder Elodie Morin-Rager is not more working at Vinoteka and that the last beta of their iOS app was released 206 day ago (March 2015

My guess is that they are out of business but I hope I am not right. If not I will make me sincere apologies for this conclusion !

I should also add that in the German MAS reviews there are also two people warning to avoid using Vinoteka with 10.11 due to a start up crash. Really bad news for the time being ...

Thanks again, @Mhoutman!

We all obviously need to be careful. I got the usual auto response to my support question yesterday. Quick replies have never been their specialty.

I too like the software or the most part - although it's not very Mac-like in places.

Anyone any ideas of the best alternatives, please?

@Msealey IMHO there are no alternatives, but if there are no El Capitan compatible updates coming, I will have to abandon Vinoteka too, I really want to with to move to 10.11.

On iOS VinoCell might be a good alternative: https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/vinocell-manage-your-wine/id521577043?l=en&mt=8

I send them an support e-mail too and also got no response.

Lat but not least I remember they have posted in the end of 2014 some pictures of Vinoteka 4 for Mac, but they are not anymore on their website anymore. Vinoteka 3 for iOS got stuck since last march.....

Yes; thanks @Mhoutman. I wrote again to them having seen someone with the same problem on FaceBook, following your Twitter lead. I also tweeted.

Thanks too for the VinoCell link.

What about Cadent's?

We could also use CellarTracker, which is where I get the details from anyway.

I just like the idea of a desktop application locally.

I'd also begun to think about putting it all into FileMaker Pro until something better becomes available.

@Msealey Candents last update was light years ago and on IOS not even available anymore. (at least in the Dutch App Store) so let forget about them. Problems it seems more and more that we also have to forget Vinoteka .

Did you buy it on MAS or from their website. If former you can file a complaint at Apple. Anyhow I think we must bundle our strength to solve this or at least to get some info from Vinoteka.

Thanks again, @Mhoutman!

I have got no reply from Cadent either.

Wrote again to Vinoteka using the info@ email address which they supply.

I bought from MAS; but are they under any actual obligation to update to 10.11 - I wouldn't have thought so?

Very good news just now from Elodie at the VinotekaSoft Support Team:

'…we've submitted new update … with … Mac OS El Capitan … so that both apps work properly again…. All you need to do now is wait until updates are published (stil for free as usual) and everything will be back on track.'

@Msealey I am not sure, but perhaps the fuzz of yesterday made them give some response :).. Even on Twitter they were so kind to respond so I hope for the better. In that case I must apologize for my suggestion they were out of business !

Current status: Both OSX and iOS versions are waiting for (Apple) review. I asked them why they did not already release the non MAS version but that remains unanswered....

Last but not least, IMO no dev is forced to update his software to be compatible with the latest OS, as long as the specs are clear it doesn't. But what would you do if you make software for a living ? ;)

Thanks, @Mhoutman; your points are good ones, of course!

I have been involved in software since the early 1980s and never understood developers who are slow to respond, or fail to do so altogether. Or just let things lapse without explanation. Perhaps they just lose interest?

I agree that it seemed as though VinotekaSoft was acting like that. Indeed, their 'WinePlace' initiative still seems a very long time in coming. Who know what their balance is between staff and resources vs ambitions.

But let's hope that the software on which we all rely is about to be successfully updated and will work without fault on iOS9 and 10.11

I finally decided in the end to switch to CellarTracker.

It does so much more, seems to have a very bright future and has truly excellent support. Eric there couldn't have been more helpful getting my exported Vinoteka data into CT.

I still wish V. well; but their features and updates and now lack of responsiveness have just been too unfortunate.

@Msealey: I think you made wise decision. We now all know Vinoteka is not compatible with both iOS 9 AND El Capitan and we have to wait till end if the year for a comp. update. (if it is released ever). I won't spend anymore time on this software which was once great on features and support and has now has become a pain in my arse.
