ff_rename is a very powerful renaming tool that you need, if you need to rename a large number of files.

These are the key features:

  • simple / expert mode
  • very powerful selecting / unselecting tools
  • regular expressions (egrep)
  • undo of renaming
  • very complex naming rules possible
  • saving and loading of rules
By using complex renaming rules you can
  • use EXIF information (SHUTTER value, creating date) for renaming
  • uppercase / lowercase filenames
  • trim filenames to a certain length (start or middle or end of target area) or by removing spaces or vocals
  • rename using current date or a counter
  • find and replace strings
  • find and replace single chars
  • find and replace single chars with index based search
  • most tokens can select target area (basename, extension or complete filename
