PowerTunes

1.4.3
08 October 2019

Create, organize, and share multiple iTunes libraries.

Overview

PowerTunes allows iTunes users to create multiple libraries, organize their music among multiple music folders, and share music and libraries between multiple users on a machine.

In addition to simply creating and keeping track of your libraries, PowerTunes also offers many additional features to help organize your music. Users can copy music back and forth between their libraries while maintaining all their ratings, play counts, and other information stored in iTunes. This allows libraries to be split up into smaller ones, or merged together into larger ones.

PowerTunes also offers a one-step solution for sharing iTunes libraries and music among multiple user accounts on a machine, allows users to fix dead tracks whose files have gone missing, finds orphaned music files in their music folders, and much more.

WARNING: this App does reset your settings in iTunes 9.2.1 !!! __ I did just test it out on 2 secondary iTunes Library. Not my main one. After stating my main iTunes again all my settings had been reset to default! Yes even my Podcasting settings. Suddenly it started to download al kind of crap from Podcasts I had unsubscribed long ago! Not Fun. You are warned! Beware.

Sierra - I bought this because I needed to split a library to fit on a micro SD card for my MacBook Air. I managed this without reading any instructions. It is very intuitive to use. A very nice touch is that you can command select all your playlists and copy them over in one go. I have about fifty, so it saved me a ton of time. You need to be patient as it takes time, but this is iTunes doing its thing. Just let it run till it's done.

One thing I should mention is that if you copy over your audiobooks it will change them to music files. This is not due to PowerTunes, iTunes does this if you add audiobooks. The workaround for me was to change all my audiobooks adding a genre tag audiobook before you attempt to copy over. Then, search the songs list for them and change them back into audiobook format. I am not sure how this goes with podcasts and movie files.

For me, it was job done easy. That is what I wanted from this software. Worth the money. I can't see any competition out there that is current and up to date.

After installing I realized it was more than what I needed for what I do on iTunes. I was given a full refund, no hassles at all, although it was not a product issue, just lack of knowledge on the part of the user! I truly appreciate their outstanding customer service!!!

And at that very same day you posted almost an identical review/comment on another Fat Cat Software application. Did you buy this in a bundle back then? But sure, the iPhoto and Photos Library Apps from the same developer is great.

Overall a good way to keep things synced, though it's requiring/using iTunes to run and do the "sync job". My major complaints; it doesn't fully support all media to be synced, e.g. iTunes extras for movies you have in your library are not synced :-( if you use a server connection for your remote library, you have to make sure you connect before using PowerTunes as itself doesn't automatically connect to a remote library :-(

Sorry about unable to edit my first review. I want to accurately express how much I like this program. It helps me manage multiple iTunes Libraries on external HD.

I'd be inclined to purchase this software if it also moved the MP3 files to the new library location. I found out it didn't the hard way.

I'm really impressed! I tried it with iTunes 771 after having lost lots of informations through various iTunes updates since version 6 and having to merge music and libraries between a MacMini and my ex-Powerbook to my actual iMac G5: Thanks to PowerTunes I could recover, reorder quite everything in less than a pair of hours. It deserves 5 stars for everything, nothing compares to it and yes, it's always a pity to see that shareware authors do a better job than Apple (since ages...). Nevertheless,I find it a bit expensive because you will use it once to reorder everything and then you'll swear not having the same mess again between your computers before needing it! :-) 10 bucks would be a more reasonnable price. (if you just need separate libraries without any interaction between them iTunes Library Manager is perhaps a more reasonnable choice) Except for that, it's a must have!!!

Libra and iTunes Library Manager are the same price (10$ - I also find it expensive for what they do... ;-D) and act more or less the same way, if the need is only to switch between libraries. Multitunes is nice too, because it's integrated in iTunes, but doesn't detect what library you're using if switching directly with iTunes startup shortcut instead (and is definitely too expensive! 16$).

Does not work with iTunes 8.02 !!! changing library is possible but copy/move/delete songs in/between different library hangs.
