Nikon ViewNX-i

1.4.0
31 October 2019

View, rate, and organize images and videos from a Nikon camera (was ViewNX).

Overview

Nikon ViewNX-i (was ViewNX) is an intuitive image hub that makes it simple to organise, process, and share stills and movies from one central platform. With three dedicated workspaces, you can switch instantly between image sorting or map and web upload operations. The integrated ViewNX-Movie Editor makes it easy to edit, trim and manage movies, and ViewNX-i works seamlessly with Nikon’s Capture NX-D for instant access to more advanced functions. Sidecar files ensure non-destructive image processing, and you can post images to social sites directly from the ViewNX-i platform.

I couldn't do a full review because it asked for my admin password. I don't know why its asking for it but a photo viewer shouldn't need it. It would be nice if they explained what they were doing but don't want to chance it...

Nikon View NX-i is NOT the update for NX2, it is (in Nikon's own words) a poor, substitute for NX2 ... one that is geared to consumers rather than PRO users ... and it is better to keep using the old version of NX2 rather than download and replace it with NX-i ... so offering it as "update" to NX-i is shoddy work MacUp0date!!!!! you should know better then this by now .....

Finally! 10.6.2 Compatibility! This is my favorite editing program and I have missed it. The link is for the Euro version so be sure to go to Nikonusa.com if you want the US version. Seems to work fine!

Two months after Snow Leopard is released, and Nikon hasn't even bothered to update its basic photo software for compatibility. If you email Nikon support, they'll tell you they haven't decided IF they will support OS 10.6 (not WHEN). This is unacceptable and shows a real lack of consideration for Mac users. Fortunately, Nikon Transfer was updated in late October and seems to work fine in SL. So at least you can upload your photos properly. Unfortunately, ViewNX is left behind (as well as Capture NX2, if you didn't install v. 2.2.2 before Leopard). Although many Mac users use iPhoto, Aperture, LightRoom to browse photos, I and many others don't. ViewNX is fast, though quirky, and works great for culling and rating photos on the fly. Or at least it does if you aren't using Snow Leopard. If you have figured a work around for ViewNX in SL, please post it here. If you are from Nikon and reading this, your company should be ashamed of itself. Nikon charges premium prices for its products, and doesn't even provide fully functional RAW editing software with its cameras (Canon does) and doesn't even update it (Capture) or its weaker sibling (ViewNX) for the latest MacOS. Unacceptable!
