DeSmuME overview

DeSmuME allows you to emulate a Nintendo DS system. Think of it as a Swiss-Army knife for Nintendo DS emulation, giving you access to many powerful tools for testing DS features, from viewing ROM properties to managing Action Replay cheats. And best of all, this software is completely free and open-source.

What’s new in version 0.9.13

  • In this version we have added support for high-resolution 3D rendering. Try the new "GPU Scaling Factor" feature to increase the 3D resolution beyond the native resolution of 256x192 pixels. DeSmuME has had many improvements since v0.9.6 (which was 3 years ago), especially to the Mac version. The Mac version was rewritten from the ground up using Cocoa and features a native Mac user interface. In addition, performance has been greatly improved, using the latest emulation core built with Mac-specific optimizations. I would strongly encourage everyone to upgrade to the latest version and check it out! You won't be disappointed.

0.9.6 is out. It works REALLY good on Windows, but not as good on Mac OS X. I hope it gets better.

I have used DeSmuME 0.9.4 and it works with many roms. Mind you thay are too slow to be playable on the intel C2D imac I have at the moment. But when I tried the same roms on 0.9.5 the app opened up ok (with a very ugly windoes-esk menu) and I loaded up some roms and they either simply do not work at all or crash the application. It seems 0.9.5 is a broken release that needs fixing. If you can get the roms working on 0.9.4 stick with that for the time being.

This new GTK-based version, while little on the ugly side, runs much faster for me (10.6 on a Core Duo Mini).
