Automatic accompaniment program.

Overview

Band-in-a-Box is an intelligent automatic accompaniment program for your multimedia computer. You can hear and play along to many song ideas and go from "nothing" to "something" in a very short period of time with Band-in-a-Box as your "on demand" backup band.

Band-in-a-Box is so easy to use!

Just type in the chords for any song using standard chord symbols (like C, Fm7, or C13b9), choose the style you'd like, and Band-in-a-Box does the rest, automatically generating a complete professional-quality arrangement of piano, bass, drums, guitar, and strings or horns in a wide variety of popular styles plus optional live audio tracks with RealDrums and RealTracks.

And that's not all...

Band-in-a-Box is a powerful and creative music composition tool for exploring and developing musical ideas with near-instantaneous feedback.

Over the years many features have been added to Band-in-a-Box - Notation and Lyrics, Piano Roll, 16-channel MIDI Multitracks, Harmonization, the StyleMaker and StylePicker, Medley Maker, and 24-substyle Multistyles. The Soloist and the Melodist are popular "intelligent" features that generate professional solos or even create whole new songs from scratch. RealDrums adds the human element of a live drummer while RealTracks add even more live session musicians, bringing the entire Band-in-a-Box arrangement to life. The Audio Chord Wizard has the amazing ability to analyze, extract, and show the chords from audio recordings on-screen and then write them to the Band-in-a-Box chord sheet.

The inclusion of digital audio features makes Band-in-a-Box the perfect tool for creating, playing, and recording your music with MIDI, vocals, and acoustic instruments. Band-in-a-Box for Mac can also record an acoustic instrument or voice to add to the composition.

You can print out your finished creation with lyrics, chords, repeats and endings, DC markings and codas, or save it as a graphics file for web publication or to e-mail to a friend. And when you're ready to let others hear your composition, you can burn it directly to an audio CD. Or save your composition in a other compressed audio format for a file that's "Internet ready."

What's new in Band-in-a-Box

Version 2019.0.314:
Fixed:
  • Video RealTracks would fail to render if using macOS Catalina.
  • Command+Return should be the hot-key for Options | MIDI Patch Maps, etc. | Insert current MIDI chord.
  • Window | Audio Chord Wizard menu item should say "Audio Chord Wizard (Legacy Standalone)", and should not be available for macOS Catalina 10.15 or higher.
  • In the Audio Chord Wizard toolbar, the "Auto Marking" and "Auto Analysis" checkboxes did not update after undoing.
  • Clicking the [Analyze] button in the Audio Chord Wizard toolbar should warn the user if no bar lines are set.
  • Launching he Audio Chord Wizard causes button hints to not show in the Audio Edit window, and it is not possible to return to the chord sheet.
  • When using the Audio Chord Wizard, sometimes the hour-glass mouse cursor does not go away after analyzing chords.
  • Double-clicking on a song file in the Finder to open it while Band-in-a-Box is running might cause a "Save before closing?" dialog to get stuck behind the main window.
Improved:
  • Auditioning styles, RealTracks, and RealDrums will start demo playback faster for online demos.
  • Help video button added to the Audio Chord Wizard toolbar in the Audio Edit window.

This update .104 has been out for months and so it's great that MacUpdate is up to date on informing me which makes me wonder why i have a paid MacUpdate updater when it is so out of wack. So it is obvious, as with some other MacUpdate announcements that their version checker robot is out of tune.

Which makes me wonder if i will " update " my MacUpdate account with $$$$$$$.

The other gripe about MacUpdate and all other software dealers is the negligent use of FREE.

This .104 update is FREE in the sense that it is an updater to a fully purchased ( paid version ) of BinaB Mac 2015 version. Therefore it is a useless download that can not be installed unless you have the fully paid version.

Mac version of Band-in-a-Box 2015.0 is absolutely fantastic. I have been using/purchasing BinaB ever since it first came out more then 25 years ago and it keeps getting better with every version. BinaB is also offered/shipped fully installed on a USB drive AND there is also an Audiophile edition on a USB drive. What i also love about BinaB's developer is the no nonsense copy-protection that some developers use such as Steinberg use ( dongle plus it calls home ). I rate this programme as a ten because it allows you to be musically creative by the use or help of artificial music intelligence.

Free? NO, not unless you already have purchased Band-In-A-Box 2014, which starts at $129 for first time buyers. See the developer's website for details.

Good comment.

I wish developers would stop using the word free so freely when what they are really saying is that the download is free but useless to you unless you own and have the programme already installed. Or the download is a demo.

Lucky me i do have the programme which over the years since i started with version 3 has i am sure cost me close to 5 thousand dollars in upgrades.

It's a fantastic programme and as close as you can get to artificial intelligence. You simply select a style, type in the chord structure of the song, hit play and add the melody line. Then if you don't like the sound of the style just select another style.

I think the next step in the Band will be to type in the name of the song and it generates the chords, melody and style.
