What's New
Version 1.3.110:

This is a minor maintenance release of Frets on Fire. Various bugs were fixed and some performance improvements were made throughout the game. Most notably, Mac OS X support was brought up to date.

Changes:
  • Wrote concise instructions for building and installing the game.
  • Removed runtime SVG support. All images must be pre-rasterized as PNG graphics now. This also removes the dependency on Amanith, making the game simpler to build and package.
  • Reworked the build system. Now an installation package can be created with a single command for Windows and Mac OS X.
  • Added textured fretboard strings and bars.
  • Updated the translations.

Quits immediately after I double-click the app on Intel Tiger. Not even an error message. Oops.

This is version 1.1.324 with the guitar hero+rf mod integrated in as much as possible. It will work with both ppc and intel macs as soon as you unzip it.

The background during song playing isn't correct, but this is leagues ahead (in my opinion) over the baseline dysfunctional .324 and .451.
I'm posting this because this game is great, but really needs a bigger fan base for more support.

I have no idea about the inner workings of the python code, but somehow I got this stuff to work.

Very fun game. still waiting for a port of frequency (another harmonix game)

I am using a 12" g4 1.5ghx powerbook OSX 10.4.9 768MG ram --> obviously ppc

I got build 324 from a forum and did the font replacement hack, and it works. Still, some of the fonts don't work and it occasionally crashes.

Is the developer just not committed to ppc anymore?

This is weak. Had to SSH in from another machine to kill -9 it. Lucky thing I had SSH enabled or else I would've had to reboot and lose a Word document I was working on.

This was on a PPC Mac, by the way.

Works fine on PPC (I have a Dual G5) if you follow my hint from below. :

Right click on the application, select Show Package Contents. Under Contents/Resources/data replace the default.tff with another .tff file (obivoulsy you need to rename the new .tff file to default.tff).

Really well implemented and very slick, and yes it needs to say an intel mac is required but the game as a whole is perfectly done. Only comes with 3 songs (though they are pretty good) but you can download more.

Plus, the keyboard makes a decent (though dorky) guitar substitute.

Overall, perfectly does what it means to do and looks pretty good to boot.

Looking at the comments on their site it looks like this current version is only working on Intel machines. It crashes immediately on my Dual G5.

I have an Intel dual-quad-core Mac Pro running OS X 10.5.6 and version 1.3.110 of Frets on Fire will not play: past the menu screens is nothing but a dark screen until it crashes. I don't know if it's the version update of Frets or OS X but it doesn't work.

1.2.438 still not working on PPC (for me anyways). And yes, I tried the font workaround. I just get a black screen and I have to push return to get out of it.

I'm really looking forward to being able to play this. Thanks.

Willop23, it does work. I've tested it on my G5 Powermac. Use the instructions from http://www.fretsonfire.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=3;t=2184;r=1

---------------------------------------

Then in the Applications folder, right click "Frets On Fire" and select "Show Package Contents".
From the new window, browse to Contents/Resources/data, then select default.ttf and do File->Duplicate.
Next, in another Finder window, navigate to /Library/Fonts (not in your home directory, but from your hard drive root), copy Chalkboard.tff and paste it into the other Finder's directory.
Rename that new Chalkboard.tff to default.ttf, and you're done!

I tried that, didn't work. Why would changing the font file make it run on PPC's?
