SigAlert Traffic Maps Widget

2.1.1
11 August 2011

Get the latest traffic maps for SigAlert.com.

Overview

The SigAlert Traffic Maps widget allows you to get the latest traffic maps for your local freeway traffic.

  • Using the maps from SigAlert.com, the widget currently supports 83 regions in 34 states.
  • The widget can be resized and allows panning of the map so that you can focus on the data you are interested in (settings will be stored for each instance of the widget).
  • Pointing the mouse over any speed dot or incident icon will display a popup with additional details - pointing the map over a camera icon will display a live traffic camera picture from that location.

The old version used to be able to display the info from the diamonds. I cannot get that list of information to show like it does at Sigalert.com or the previous version before 2.0. Please try to include this in a future version. It was helpful information.

This new version DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. When you download this version to an Intel Core2Duo Unibody Aluminum MacBook (the latest version, released November 2008) running Mac OS 10.5.6, nothing happens -- the normal OS X automatic widget installer does not startup and attempt to install the widget as usual because, of course, it is a .zip file. So, you double-click the SigAlert.wdgt.zip file and you get a normal looking SigAlert.wdgt file, but still the OS X automatic widget installer does not appear! So, naturally you double-click the widget, expecting it to auto-install, but instead you get a message that says "The file "SigAlert.wdgt" is not a valid widget and you cannot install it." I tried downloading it from MacUpdate.com and VersionTracker.com, but had the same results. I have used this widget for a couple of years, and I always updated it with no problem when new versions appeared. But this time it just won't work.

As mentioned on the widget's website: DO NOT use a third-party installation to unzip the widget - most third-party unzip applications don't deal with widgets (namely the symlink inside) correctly, rendering the widget corrupt. Just use the Finder's built-in unzip feature and things will work just fine.

This widget installed fine but will not display ANY data. Kind of useless, which is unfortunate since their website is so helpful and their previous widget worked fine.

Began working great, then caused problems with other widgets and was forced to delete. It's really a shame... hopefully conflict issues will be fixed w/ future releases
