The MailFollowUp bundle adds a "Follow Up" item to the Message and contextual menus (and optional toolbar item) of Apple's Mail application that allows you to compose (and then send) a quoted version of the original message to all of the original recipients, keeping the To, Cc and Bcc addresses exactly as they appeared in the original message. Hawk Wings has a nice description of it, and Dan Frakes wrote about it in January of 2007.

If you are using OS X 10.8 or later and have installation difficulties please see here.

Install fails ... as has always been the case with plug-ins from this developer.
As of today, I'm simply not gonna download any puppies from them.

I usually have to try to install a second time. Did that just now, works fine, appreciate the fast update to 10.9.1 from the dev.

Installed 1.6 in Mail/Maverick and upon launching mail again it was disabled - needs a tweak perhaps?

[From Greg, the "developer"] Hi. Please contact me if (a) it's still not working, and (b) you haven't contacted me. Perhaps there is an install error. As far as I know it's working fine for others. It's certainly working for me. Thanks.

Continues as a daily essential with Mail. Apple "just buy it" from Greg and put into Mall yourselves!

Highly recommended.

Such a brilliant idea. I always need to follow-up emails, Greg's Plugin is simple and smart. Greg is also responsive as a developer despite a full-time career elsewhere THanks!

This is so good and obvious it's hard to understand why it isn't put into Mail by Apple.

It's free, it (and Greg's other plug-ins) provides features not available in Mail, it's one of a number of features Apple should have included in Mail 6. That said, I have never been able to install it (under multiple versions of Mail and Mac OS), and one ay or another the Installer really needs to be debugged.

Just manually drag the plugin to the Mail plugins folder in Library. Full instruction on Greg's website.

Sorry ... I meant the Installer should be abandoned. It has never worked for me (across multiple versions of the Mac OS and Mail. Copying the plug-in manually ... fine ... Installer, not so fine. Greg should simply abandon the Installer ... it's way more trouble than its worth.

The MailFollowUp Plugin can be made to work with Mountain Lion by adding the appropriate compatibility indicators:

- "show package contents" on the MailFollowUp Bundle (e.g. in ~/Library/Mail/Bundles (disabled))
- open the Info.plist file
- add the following two String entries to the SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs key array:
608CE00F-4576-4CAD-B362-F3CCB7DE8D67
1146A009-E373-4DB6-AB4D-47E59A7E50FD
- save, put the bundle back into the Bundles directory
- restart Mail

But it seems to be impossible to change the subject prefix again, as on the change to Lion.

After running the Apple Security Update 2012-004 for Mac OS X 10.6 on OS 10.6.8 I couldn't get the MailFollowup 1.4.4 plugin to successfully load.

Solution: Download "MailPluginFix" from here: http://code2k.net/products/mailpluginfix/ and follow described steps to patch any incompatible plugins after a software update.

Kris had trouble on 26 Aug 2006
My Mail application was crashing on and off this week. I couldn't figure out why. Then I installed this version, and it crashed like crazy. I then deleted this whole plugin, and Mail stabilized.

What gives?

I won't install this again: I lost all my inbox messages (or so I thought) until I snooped around, and found most of them.

I have no idea what this person's problem is, as they have not attempted to ask/contact me. I am not aware of anyone else (of the hundreds who use it) having a problem with the plugin.
