Videohub

6.4.4
21 November 2019

Utility software for Blackmagic hardware.

Overview

Videohub eliminates complicated manual cable patching by connecting everyone together into a fully-featured professional routing switcher - which previously only large television companies could afford. Workgroup Videohub automatically switches between standard definition SDI and high definition SDI with full 12x24 routing. With 12 extra independent SDI monitoring outputs allowing separate monitoring direct from the router. Also included are 12 RS-422 deck control ports with two channels in internal processing for HD down-conversion, and a keying frame store. Compatibility with all SDI based equipment is assured, as all connections are compliant with SMPTE-292M, SMPTE-259M, SMPTE-296M and ITU-R BT.656.

Video routing switchers are popular in high-end post-production because they allow non-technical people to connect to each other and share broadcast decks, without the complexity of manual cable patching. Remote switching via your IP network means you don't even need to walk to a central patch panel - great when there are many people are working on the same client job.

In addition to working with 12 extra independent SDI monitoring outputs, this application allowed me to travel through time. Yes, it is expensive, but how do you put a price on meeting people from the past? It would be great if it would allow me to travel to the future too, but you'll need to upgrade to the enterprise edition for this feature.

I'm just curious, is this the most expensive app on MacUpdate?

I think maybe Nigel Smith is getting this app mixed up with the now defunct, old VisualHub app that used to compress video and cost $24.00 - definitely not the same thing.

It's a professional video hardware solution. The firms that buy this sort of gear don't bat an eye at that price (they're the ones spending millions of dollars making movies).

"Videohub eliminates complicated manual cable patching by connecting everyone together into a fully featured professional routing switcher - which previously only large television companies could afford" Misha, based on their pricing it's definitely *still* only affordable to those same entities but the blurb seems to imply this is a solution anyone could afford. I've known people that do video work and I doubt they'd look at this price and not only blink but shake their head and surf away ;)
