MailWidget overview

MailWidget announces the arrival of new mail. It is a direct extension to Apple Mail. But Apple Mail does not have to run all the time in background. The usage is very simple and intuitive. Download it and try it yourself.

Still opens Mail nicely but still gives no indication of waiting mail. That stopped several versions ago (iMac, OS 10.7.3)

Brilliant little widget! As another posted, it would be nice to be able to check multiple accounts with one instance of the widget though. Otherwise, it's simple, works great and I use it every day.

Some users report an issue after updating to Mac OS X 10.6.4. During installation Apple Mail gets updated and requires to update all mailboxes to work with the new version. However MailWidget seems to interfere this update process. To overcome this, please remove all instances of MailWidget from Dashboard. Launch Apple Mail from Spotlight or by finding it on the Volume and let it update the mailboxes. After that you can recreate your instances of MailWidget.

This widget does exactly what the developer says it does. No problems thus far, and it's great to finally not have to have Mail.app open all of the time. Thanks to the developer for continued widget development! Best Regards, JD

Thanks for dropping 10.4.x support, I'm going back to the older version and switch off the update function (if it's possible...)

I like so much this widget. I had an issue with 3.0, and the developer was kindle, gentle in the emails helping me; and promptly did an improvement and updated the software. It was really good to interact with him, I felt participating part of it. I truly recommend to use it, because you can check all emails account you have, instead of only Gmail, as you can do in the commons notifies; or leaving the Mail open. In addiction, the Leopard Mail icon is neat on dashboard ;)

Doesn't work for me. Have logged out, logged back in. Won't inform me of new mail. The old version did, this one doesn't. OS 10.5.6 and 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Looks nice, takes up little space, works well, good customization. But tracks the IN box, not all unread emails, so if you have rules set up to sort new mail, the widget will miss them. Suggestion: clicking on widget checks for new mail immediately.

Is there any chance of extending it, so you can check multiple email addresses in one instance of the widget? That would be the only quibble I have with this, otherwise, superb widget.

Major advantage: Mail.app doesn't need to be open in order to check unread mail. Major disadvantage: You can't check more than one email account in the same instance of the widget. You have to use multiple instances, for checking more than one email.

v2.0.3 is broken, as Joe said. Can't get past the password. Reverted to 2.0.2 which works. And, yes, it would be great to have only new mail listed.

I tried 2.0 and it worked like a charm. This morning I upgraded to 2.0.3 and I can't get past the password page for my account. I press verify and nothing seems to happen. Can I get 2.0 back until this is fixed?

Now that I updated to v2.0, It will no longer let me choose my .mac account. Only Gmail or AOL. the last version actually worked. this one does not. shame I did not keep a backup of the old version.

Mail password seems to disapear from time to time after a computer restart, then I have to enter the password again to let MailWidget do its scan.
