Overview

Can You Raed Tihs? was developed to help you explore the interesting phenomenon that people do not look at a word one letter at a time but at the word as a whole. If the first and last letters are left unchanged, the middle letters can be "scrambled" without making the word much more difficult to read.

Funny little app. The phenomenon actually tends to fail, when you group the vowels and the consonants together and don't intermix, and it mostly fails with languages that tend to have longer words than English (e.g. German), but I digress....

I think when reading we still recognize the letters in the middle of the word, and that's enough. There are a lot of words with the same beginning and ending letter, so if we shortened all words to 2 letters, reading would go a lot slower since we would have to figure out which precise word was meant.
