Widget finds song lyrics.

Overview

Harmonic is lyrics done right. Anywhere.

Harmonic always finds the lyrics you want, quickly and easily. You don't have to do a thing. Fire up the widget and play a song from iTunes. Leave it open in Dashboard and each song that plays will have lyrics added to it in the background while you work or play. It's that easy.

iPod integration If you have an iPod with video or an iPod nano, your lyrics go directly onto the iPod via iTunes. Tap the center button while playing a song to sing along. Have an older iPod? No problem. Just drag the "Harmonic Lyrics" folder from your Music folder into the "Notes" folder on your iPod. Next time you are on the bus and can't figure out that one line, whip to your Extras > Notes > Harmonic Lyrics section on your iPod and experience portably lyrical bliss.

Harmonic is the not only the best looking lyrics widget, it is also the simplest to use. Don't worry about it, it does exactly what you want it to.

What's new in Harmonic

The newest version never seems to find lyrics anymore. Even for the most popular songs. What gives?

The author mentions on his blog that the music industry shut down the API that Harmonic relied upon at LyricWiki. Without that access, Harmonic can't grab lyrics anymore, just that useless truncated bit that we get now. He is no more pleased than we are: http://mindquirk.com/2009/08/03/harmonic-is-dead/ The author also started college last fall, so he put Harmonic into open-source here: http://mindquirk.com/2009/11/13/the-opening-of-the-source/

Finally a lyrics widget that works! I created a macupdate account just to leave my first review because I was amazed at how much this has improved. I'm not sure what was done on this latest release but it is a night and day difference compared with the version I used 6 or 7 months ago. I started with Harmonic, and it worked but never that well. Then I switched to Pearlyrics which was marginally better, but still unimpressive. Today I decided to check if Harmonic had improved and I was surprised to see that lyrics were found and updated in iTunes within the first few seconds of the song! It is now very fast and much more accurate; able to pick up lyrics for many live songs as well. Hats off to the developer. The one feature I liked of Pearlyrics that Harmonic lacks is the ability to delay the input of lyrics into the song data so that there isn't the common slight pause of the song at the beginning of the track. If it also had a feature to add lyrics to the whole library without having to play each song this widget would be godly.

Strange. Harmonic stopped working for me. I'm not sure if it was after updating Leopard to 10.5.3 of Harmonic to 2.3, but somewhere in the hay something strange happened. Now, after changing a song on iTunes i can see the lyric being displayed on Harmonic for a split of a second but it changes to "Can't Find Lyrics". Checking Terminal I can confirm that harmonic did find the lyric, so I don't know why it's not showing it.

The 2.2 update rocks! Yeah, this widget can only find lyrics that are already on the web somewhere, it can't make them up by itself. I can live with that. I had an issue with the paste function on v2.1.1 but the update seems to have fixed that. Thanks for the great widget.

ROR01, I can't see the reasoning behind your unsubstanciated comment, ie. "Forget it". The app you suggest is just that, an app, not a widget that provides that much of an extra degree of freedom between the user and the OS. Granted ver. 2.0.1 might have some issues with Leopard, but i trully belive the dev will remedy asap.

This widget would be great except for the fact that 9 out of 10 times it can't find the lyrics for a song and instead populates your iTunes with an ad for lyricsdir.com. Until this is fixed I recommend trying another lyrics widget.

The gap is from the lyrics not only being downloaded, but automatically added to the currently playing song. The gap is from the mp3 file being modified on the fly. This fulfills one of your requests already. The only way to stop the gap is to have an option to turn off automatic adding of the lyrics. At least, that's how I understand it works.

This is a great idea, but in my opinion, it has two flaws: 1) I get a gap during playback, every time the widget searches for the lyrics online. 2) The text can be neither selected, nor pasted into the iTunes song prefs Fix these two items and I will quite likely keep it running regularly in the background.

This text just got pasted in my song lyrics! " 403 Forbidden Forbidden You don't have permission to access /lyrics/harmonic.php on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.mindquirk.com Port 80 " It would be nice that if Harmonic encounters an error it could keep it for itself instead of sharing it with my songs! :P

My apologies if the "ad thing" isn't harmonic fault In my case it started as soon as I installed it (I was using pear lyrics and no, it didn't happen to me before). so I (wrongly) assume that it was harmonic fault.I'm updating my rating to a neutral 3.

Guys, I don't suppose it occurred to you that it's not the widget's fault; it didn't happen after an upgrade or anything, and furthermore PearLyrics does the same thing. Presumably that lyrics site didn't want people to be able to access their lyrics without going to the actual site, so they started feeding that ad to any external0 client that came sniffing around. That said, though, Harmonic really isn't that good at finding lyrics, which is unfortunate because everything else about it works nicely.

"We suggest: Lyrics Directory - http://lyricsdir.com/ Don't forget to donate to keep this great service running" What the hell is this???Instead of finding the lyrics harmonic is populating all my songs with this AD!!This way all the other apps (yes, there's life outside harmonic) don't even try to find the proper lyric since they assume that they already have one!!

So I thought maybe it was my eclectic taste in music... I started out with music by "The Format", then "Architecture in Helsinki", then I moved on to "Radiohead" and Ben Folds....... what gives? No Lyrics? Connection Error? where are the preferences? where are the lyrics? I have had no luck at all with this widget. I would like to know the lyrics to some of the songs i listen to. Any ideas?

Perhaps my Music is obscure, but for the first few songs I was playing no lyrics were found. For example, songs by Judy Dyble, Vanessa Paradis, Steeleye Span, Alison Moyet, Annie Haslam, ... . I can understand why, but it does rather give the lie to the developer claims. On the rare occassion that the lyrics were found I have to say it worked very well.

Would really be nifty if it could remember its size over a reboot - it always starts up too small at the moment (especially considering you can't scroll with the wheel :)

awesome. looks great and works great. only a few comments: -scroll wheel support please. -It says "New version available" while I'm using the latest. huh? -a way to modify a lyrics search (especially useful for searching lyrics of covers) then copy the new result into iTunes

Very cool, stable, not overbloated and pretty FAST on a broadband connection! Although it doesn't packed with lots of other nifty features/add-ons like any other 'lyric-featching' widget (like Sing the iTune! and PearLyrics), it's seems enough and satisfactory for me.

This is a very good widget typically. It finds the lyrics fast (on a broadband connection at least) and it's simple and to the point. The only problem is I listen to a lot of music that isn't mainstream music, (Indie, Christian, Old Skool Underground Hip-Hop, etc.) and it can't find lyrics for most of my music. Most oldies and mainstream music should be fine though.
