FontMatch analyzes sample fonts to find matches amongst your Mac's available fonts.

How many times have you been searching for a font, looking through the font books one page at a time, or just knowing that it's on your computer somewhere, but you cannot remember its name? Maybe a customer gave you a business card and asked you to match it, or maybe you saw a sample of the perfect typeface somewhere and wanted to create something similar… it's time consuming, isn't it? Not to mention frustrating.

This would be a GREAT app if it could compare multiple characters all at once. It is way too tedious to import one character at a time, and the results are not accurate based on just one character. So it's not useful or time-saving in its current state. Expanded multi-searching capabilities would make this a dynamite prog! You fix ... I buy!

I was looking forward to this program as a substitute for the website:

http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

But I find this program to be rather slow, and you can´t seem to let it load a whole logo (e.g. logo with more than 1 type in the font), which would be the main argument for using a software like this... you can actually do this at the forementioned website: whatthefont.

It actually found the font I was looking for at my harddrive, but it also listed at least 200 other fonts as well. So, since the right font got the best score I have to say I´m glad it worked, although it is very slow. I will continue to try it a bit more

Hope a strongly upgraded version in the future. I hope you will use
http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
for inspiration :-)

It would be a nice tool if it knew how to search in a library of CLOSED fonts.

Anyone needing a tool such as this one is more than likely to have thousands of fonts on his Mac, and just as likely to use some font activation tool.

Comparing a sample to just the "active" fonts at a given moment is simply not going to work, because chances are the font you're looking for will not be activated.
And activating one's whole font library prior to using this is ludicrous.

So this is just plain useless, i'm afraid, in its current state. But it wouldn't take much (yeah, easy enough for me to say, i know ;-) to make it very worthwhile, so keep working on it, guys.

I agree. The hard work has been done. Now just implement it correctly and it'll be fantastic.

FontMatch™ to the rescue! Instead of calling all the designers you know for advice, you can ask FontMatch™ to "look" at a sample and compare it to each font on your computer. FontMatch™ compares positive and negative space in a manner very similar to the way your eyes do, matching patterns to determine the best "fit". After examining each font, it displays two images side by side: the one you supplied, and FontMatch's best answer or you can scroll through each of the answers, and see a percentage for each one that represents the closeness of the fit. Unlike the online matching utilities, this program matches only to the fonts that you already have in your computer.

All you have to do is supply FontMatch™ with an image file (.jpg, .bmp, .gif, etc.) and then specify what character this image represents (for example, capital C.) FontMatch™ can search through the fonts loaded on your machine, or (new for version 1.1) all of the fonts in a particular directory.

The speed of obtaining results seems almost magical-- what used to take hours now takes only minutes.
