Exactly what features does this add to EyeTV that make it worh the shareware fee? iCal integration? A remote for which you need other software and hardware? (most newer EyeTvs already have a remote built in) Playlists? I don't know. It just seems redundant to me Still, as a piece of software, I find the latest version quite stable and usable. If you really NEED the feaures it gives, it would not hurt to give it a try

Hi (From Developer), I always knew that Elgato would catch up with me -- iEye Captain was mainly useful during the time EyeTV was not delivering infrared or multiple hard drive support, and now that these are both possible within EyeTV, interest in my app has really bottomed out. As a result, I can not afford the development time necessary for a full Leopard update. Version 1.0.8.3 has been workable on Leopard for most users -- if you have bugs to report, by all means please do email them to me. I can't promise any ETA, but if I get enough requests I will try to put some time in over the summer. Thanks for understanding, Graham Jones, Developer.

PARTIAL LEOPARD SUPPORT Hi, I have run into some snags, and will unfortunately not have a full Leopard-compatible version until sometime in February. However, you may have better luck using Leopard with this build: http://www.sjones.info/Downloads/iEyeCaptain1083.zip Thanks for your patience, Graham Jones, Developer

Hi (from developer), I am currently working on Leopard compatibility and expect to release a free update sometime in December. However, I can confirm that until I release this update iEye Captain WILL NOT WORK ON MAC OS 10.5 / LEOPARD. Thanks for your patience. Graham Jones, Developer.

Hi, just a reminder that I have not yet tested iEye Captain on Leopard -- I will be getting my copy as soon as I can once they go on sale, and I'll do my best to run it through its paces. If you do decide to upgrade to Mac OS 10.5 and encounter any issues, please contact me directly by email (use "Contact Developer" or "Report a bug by email" from inside the app), and I will do my best to fix the issues quickly. Thanks, Graham Jones, Developer.

Hi (from developer), 2 PPC users have reported problems launching 1.0.7. I am working on a fix and should have it within a couple of days. if you are also experiencing this issue (or to give me an all clear) please email me at info@vidcan.com and let me know the details of your system and the symptoms. Thanks, Graham Jones, Developer.

Hi, The other user who had the same problem reported that cleaning system caches, doing cron jobs (regular Unix system maintenance by a tool like MacJanitor), repairing permissions, rebooting, and re-installing fixed it. It may have only been one of the above... a bad cache file, or something particular to her system... If you experience this problem you may want to try the same steps. They are helpful maintenance steps to do every so often anyway. Hope this helps, Graham Jones Developer

I have made the tough decision that though I will continue to support and debug iEye Captain, I will be discontinuing development of new features. Recent changes in EyeTV are making it difficult to innovate the way that I used to, and because Elgato doesn't share their development schedule with me, I can spend months developing something that is obsolete the day after I introduce it. iEye Captain's tool box, including rapid-fire screenshots, iCal, alias, and text exporting, infrared control, savable advanced searches, and other features will still be useful for quite some time, and most are unlikely to be added by Elgato anytime soon. And with the new $15 purchase price, it is more cost-effective than ever to add these features. Thanks for understanding, Graham Jones, Developer.

My original purpose in purchasing iEye Captain was to control the channel switching of my Satellite TV Set Top Box. I have EyeTV 200 and the Zephir USB IR remote. That combination works beautifully and provides "one click" timed recording. However, in addition to my original desire I keep finding new uses for iEye Captain. It allows convienent viewing of multiple EyeTV archives and helps with organizing, maintaining and exporting the videos and descriptions. I'm extremely pleased with iEye Captain and would recommend it for all EyeTV users.

A couple of years ago, after finally switching to digital cable, I wanted a way to have my eyeTV box change channels on my cable box. Of course this wasn't happening, so I switched to ReplayTV. I was tired of paying for Replay service, so I went looking for something that would integrate with eyeTV and operate an IR transmitter to change the channels on my cable box. There are many other things that iEye Captain can do, but this is all I use it for and it does an incredible job. The one problem I've had, the developer has been very responsive about and has told me exactly where it fits into the development schedule (although he has since said that it will be in the next build instead of waiting until when he was originally going to fix it). Granted, it's not perfect because it is beta software. It is amazing that a single developer with a day job has been able to put this kind of work into the project. Kudos!

This software is great and fulfills all my needs: I've got an EyeTV200 that is recording off a digital cable set-top box (UK Samsung ntl box), and this program allows me to set the recording dates/time in iCal in order to control automatically the channel changes on the set-top box via an IR remote (iRed) - my dream come true! I can also move the recordings across an AirPort network (with the Archive Mover feature) between different drives and play from multiple archives. Okay so that's brilliant just for my own very specific set-up, but it's got plenty of other features too, so it's definitely worth checking out for your own set-up if there's something that EyeTV's own software can't do. Bearing in mind that's it's in beta mode i.e. still under development (and if you've got questions the developer is very responsive), that's pretty impressive stuff.
