What's new in info.xhead

Version 2.0:

  • Redesigned Category Editor - Creating and editing categories is now simpler than ever. The new Category Editor uses a drag-and-drop design allowing you to quickly create new categories. Now comes with full undo and redo support.
  • Image Support - You can now attach images to entries by dragging and dropping an image on an entry. info.xhead stores the original full-scale image as well as a thumbnail. You can also drag application or file icons to use as images.
  • Infolists - A new way of organizing entries, Infolists allow you to group related entries from different categories in one place.
  • Field Types - Categories now support defining fields of type Date, Money, or Number, in addition to Text Fields. Fields of type Date, Money, and Number benefit from automatic formatting.
  • Visual Type Select - For the first time, see what you're actually typing when type-selecting. A small transparent window appears as soon as you start typing in the Entry List and swiftly selects the matched Entry as soon as you're done typing.
  • Scroll Guide - The Entry List now shows a guide when scrolling allowing you to see where you are in the list. If your entries are sorted alphabetically, alphabets are shown. If your entries are sorted by created or modified date, you'll see dates as you scroll.
  • Performance - info 2 is the fastest version we have released to date. info 2 starts up instantly (no more dock bounces) and saves are dramatically faster.
  • External Links - You can now create "links" to entries in info.xhead from external applications. Dragging and dropping an entry in a Pages document for instance creates a link to the entry. Clicking the link launches info.xhead if it's not already running and shows the entry.
  • Incremental Undo - Individual changes to fields in an entry can now be discretely undone without undoing all the changes to the entry.
  • Contextual Menus - Both Source and Entry Lists now feature contextual menus avoiding the long journey to the menubar. This is for all you "right-clickers" out there (you know who you are).
Features
  • Organize Away - Organize your most important information using extensible and color-coded categories. info.xhead comes with several built-in categories for storing everyday information.
  • Fully Customizable - Create your own categories to store any kind of data. You can customize an existing category and add fields, delete fields, rename fields, or rearrange the order in which they're displayed.
  • Secure Database - info.xhead uses 256-bit AES encryption to safeguard your sensitive data. A password you provide is used to encrypt your information and secure access to the application.
  • Hidden Fields - Don't want anyone taking a peek at your data while the application is open? Mark any field as hidden and obscure it with bullets. Text in that field is only revealed when you click on it.
  • AutoLock - To keep your data secure even when the application is running, info.xhead can automatically lock itself after a configurable period of inactivity, when your computer goes to sleep, or when a user switch occurs.
  • AutoFill - Take the work out of logging into websites and have info.xhead do it for you. With a single click, it can launch Safari, go to the website, and automatically fill out the username and password fields and log you in.
  • One-click Copy - Don't waste time selecting text and choosing Edit > Copy. Just click the field label and information in that field is swiftly copied to the clipboard. It doesn't getting any easier or faster
  • MobileMe Integration - If you have a MobileMe account, you can use the built-in Backup feature to backup your database to your iDisk. Should you need to, you can restore your database from MobileMe as well.
  • Import - Import information into info.xhead from CSV (Comma-separated Value) or Tab-delimited files. A flexible import mechanism gives you precise control over how data is imported.

I will reiterate what a previous reviewer noted. This appears to be abandonware. The developer's Web site no longer exists. When the site was available, it said they would have iPhone syncing in 2009. It never happened. Info.xhead is a great app, but it's safe to assume we will not see anymore updates.

The developer's website (xhead) is gone. They are out of business most likely. Abandoned. Purchase this software with caution. It works fine but they have been behind times for the last few years. No iPhone/iPad version, no product enhancements/updates etc.. They worked on a "when we get around to it" schedule....

While there are different password managers out there, none match the elegance of this one. Reliable, simple, slick, intuitive. I have been using this program for years and I cannot function without it. It has never failed me. MobileMe synchronization is awesome. Version 2.0 is amazing. I have begged them for an iPhone/iPod touch version.

Hi there, I use info.xhead software to keep track of the many site addys, passwords and URLS I use in my work as a busy deputy managing editor for an international newsblog of 40 journalists. I've used info.xhead for several years now, just recently updated to most recent version. THIS SOFTWARE has never once lost an item or jammed. It is like a faithful assistant who instead of saying, "I'll go look for it, um maybe I know where it is," instead says immediately, "Here is all the data you need right now and in full." What a relief. I am always looking for straightforward unbloated software that has a reasoned learning curve and works reliably the first, tenth and zillionth time like clockwork. info.xhead does just that. I'd also mention ANY time I've had a question, the genius behind the software answers promptly and in full. That's also a big plus, as I have other productivity software that seems to have to get a gong to raise the dead to get a response from 'support.' Info.xhead is FIVE STARS all the way around. Thanks. dr.e

Info.xhead is without a doubt one of the best applications of its kind. Version 2.0 incorporates a number of handy features. I like the newly redesigned user interface. It looks a lot slicker, but still maintains some of its classic look and feel. Still, like everything else, features and all could be further improved - I only hope it doesn't take a year or two for any improvements to be realized. The developers, in my opinion, have succeeded at putting together yet another solid update to this fantastic application. But this alone is only part of what they should offer; addressing customers needs and concerns in an honest and timely manner is equally important. Sadly, this seems not to be the case often. I'm sure that with every OS overhaul, comes challenges to developers. Maybe more so to some due to the nature of their applications. But there are developers offering their software as freeware or donationware who keep up with those challenges and who provide outstanding customer support with nothing more than the satisfaction of helping users have the best experience using their software. I commend them for that. People should show appreciation for their time and passion by making a donation whenever possible. The developers of Info.xhead would certainly benefit by adopting some of that passion. But why am I praising this application while at the same time showing the stick? Well, it's simple. It's sad to see customer support not doing justice to an otherwise fantastic application. My critique is intended to encourage the developers to take better care of their customers, after all, they have built a great application. Why not going full circle then?

Waited a long time for an update, and now that it's here it will neither accept my old registration key, nor does it seem to be able to communicate with mobileme. I'd export the data to put into another app, but the export function is grayed out... Hopefully v.1 on my G5 will let me export the data.

I wish I saved my money. I haven't been able to update my passwords in over 2 months because the developer won't update this software. The developer has also told me that an update would come out soon after Snow Leopard came out. It's a simple password app. It really shouldn't take this long. Save your money for a password managing app written by a developer that actually bothers to release updates in a timely manner.

I was a longtime (2006) fan of the 1.4 release. When Snow Leopard came out, xheadsoftware released a 2.0 beta that did allow those of us who'd upgraded to 10.6 to read our info.xhead databases, but not write to them. On 8/30 I was told by support that a full version, compatible with Snow Leopard, would be available within 3 weeks. _Eight_ weeks later, on 10/26, I emailed them again to find out what was up, and I was told the full version would be available on Monday 11/2. It's now 11/11, and I've heard nothing from the company, and the site has not been updated. When they didn't keep their first target date, they should have followed up with customers. When they didn't keep their second target date, they should have followed up with customers. I find this kind of negligent support and lack of communication unacceptable, so now I'm going to go find a software developer that doesn't make me chase them or work quite so hard to be their customer.

We wonder this company has abandoned the development for Snow Leopard. It has been almost 8 weeks after Snow Leopard released. And it has no updates for Snow Leopard. Buying this application is insane because it only supports to 10.5 Leopard only. Who else would buy this application today?! Crap and junk!

This app is exceptionally polished and intuitive, and its feature set is well designed. If all Mac OS X shareware was this good, Microsoft's market share would be doomed. Only problem for info.xhead is that 1Password leaves it in the dust. As a data manager, 1Password is a bit more robust, but where 1Password shines is in its web browser integration and development pace. 1Password works so seamlessly with web browsers that it's easy to forget it has a separate application, it's virtually invisible it works so well. And with every browser update, 1Password's developers issue a lightning fast update that just works. Although dedicated to 1Password, I'm keeping an eye on info.xhead, because it's got the potential to leap ahead of 1Password, and the competition keeps both developers at the top of their game. info.xhead is also considerably cheaper - $15 versus $40 - but even a cheap mofo like myself recognizes that 1Password is still the better value.

Info.xhead has become an indispensable part of my every day computing. The clean UI is straight forward and easy to use. Autofill, totally customizable, super secure with 448-bit Blowfish encryption, this product has it all. Oh yeah, their customer service is absolutely second to none. Info.xhead is an excellent product.

After trying various applications for secure data management, I have settled with info.xhead. It's simple yet powerful, full-featured and solid like a rock. What it does, does it very well. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other application, such as loading app icons, for example, and this is another reason I chose it for. It looks less superficial and more discrete. One thing I would like to see in a future update though: the ability to save files in its database. But this is something I can live without.

This is a really capable, elegant, flexible password manager. If you're looking for an Address Book-like interface and a direct replacement for Web Confidential (don't get me wrong, WC still works fine!) then IMHO this is well worth a look.

I had been looking for a good password/user details application for some time on the mac. I had also been looking for one that allowed me to either synchronize or backup to .MAC. Probably the best thing about info.xhead is that it's fully customizable. You can create your own categories, and with the categories you can customize the way your entries will appear, allowing you to add your own fields per category. Ideal. Not every website has a username and password and not every, you choose what fields you want. The application itself looks and functions very much like iCal and Address Book to a large degree, and MAC users will feel right at home with this application. It's not loaded with over the top features that will never get used, and it doesn't need, it does exactly what it's meant to do. If you're looking for a password/serial number/user details application that you can tailor to your own needs, you would be foolish to miss out on info.xhead, especially at the low price. As an additional note, I had an issue with my serial key and I had a response to my email within several minutes, very rare to find customer support like that!

I was looking for a reasonable application to store and access passwords and accidentally came across info.xhead after browsing dozens. This was exactly what I needed, it stores passwords securely and organizes them logically. It's a small app and leaves a small footprint. The autofill feature is great, find your account entry, hit autofill and you are on your way. Definitely worth it.

WebConfidential was getting a bit out of date, so I was looking for something new and more customizable. I tried the demo of info.xhead and after using it for a week with Leopard, I'm very happy and purchased it. Killer feature is customizing the card info to match what you really want on a card, and adding/duplicating/modifying categories to match your needs. It was a lot of work to get my old info out of WebConfidential(not comma or tab export options), but now that the info is in info.xhead, I can export as a CSV or tab formatted file (ensuring any future switch will go much smoother). info does a good job of importing, if you just have the right file format to import from (FYI, I 'printed' my WebConfidential list as a PDF, then hacked that text to ensure it was comma separated with exactly the same number of items per record... and that imported fine) Feature I'd love to see is for me to input my favorite info (email and most common password) and have the app autofill it to a card when I'm starting to type it...and maybe a more forgiving import (if one record has too many or few items) Good app, reasonable price.

I've been using 'info' for 18 month now. Rock solid, no problems at all. One feature that really scores is the ability to edit or add new fields. I now have most of my information regarding a purchase stored within 'info'; licence key, purchase date, order number... as well as all my passwords - you can add whatever you like. It's got a really smooth interface too. I just mailed a query to the guys at 'xhead', and they got back to me the same day, and worked with me to solve the problem. Their customer service is great. Don't bother looking around for another app, this one is excellent.

I had ka-jillion passwords and site addresses written on stickies and post-it notes all over the place. It was driving me nuts to find what I needed when I needed it. I bought Info.xhead and it was perfect, worked seamlessly, just upgraded it to the latest version and it still works great. It is SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD, incredibly easy to use. I love the new larger font size choices. The developer Kevin is very quick to respond. The price is small; if I had to pay an assistant to keep looking for all my pw data, I'd pay 1000 times more. The software is utterly stable, never causes a problem. I love that the list window is really long and resizable, and that it saves automatically if so chosen in the prefs. It's just a fine piece of software, and I have downloaded many other ones from various places that believe me, were real dogs. And I dont mean that as an insult to real dogs, who I like very much. lol. Thanks!

If you are in the process of "shopping around" for a password manager, you can stop now. You really don't need to look any further for the best of the breed. While I haven't tried ALL the password managers, I have tried a few, and here's why I say info.xhead is on a whole different plateau altogether: 1. Excellent search features. So excellent, you don't even need to be USING the app to search your passwords for that one login for rarelyvisited.com you created a year and a half ago: it's Spotlight-enabled. 2. Great organizational features: categorize and color-code your passwords. I have over a hundred different passwords I need to keep track of (and renew regularly). Customizable categorization of my passwords is a godsend. 3. Beautiful Mac interface. I'd like to see maybe a little customizability here, but at the same time I'm not sure what I'd change. I don't ordinarily give two hoots about how pretty an app is, but compared to what I had before, this is actually a *pleasure* to use. I was a die-hard loyalist of another password mgmt program, but it was starting to be not so great as I accrued more and more passwords. info.xhead instantly converted me, it is the dream-date among password management applications. Customer support has also been great, and you can tell they care about making a quality product that's responsive to the needs of the community they're developing for.

This new version takes care of the iPod complaint, I believe... I've been using this app for about a year (over 11 months). I must say, it is the best solution of its kind, and I've tried many out there. The interface is unbeatable: simple, powerful, intuitive. It has never let me down. I've never experienced any problems, freezes, loss of data, or corruption. I use it daily. Can't live without it. Totally worth the price. Also, the developers are super nice and very open to suggestions. I feel good supporting them. My one complaint is that it still starts a bit slow... many bounces in the dock before it launches the passoword request dialogue box (annoying as heck). And I actually preferred that the app quit as the window is closed like in the old version.

After trying out various Mac-based password management solutions, I was very glad to find info.xhead. It is easy to use and flexible enough for all my password needs. Whats more, they have excellent customer service! I was very pleased with their quick response and willingness to work through what turned out to be a system-related issue I recently had, which was affecting their software (and my Address Book). But we had them both working again in no time - thanks to their help.

Wanted secure password management, looked at Dataziv and Norton then found info.xhead. This is so much like the Tiger interface, really smooth, visually appealing and very quick to get to grips with. You can customise fields and categories easily - and a plus: if you don't use a field in an entry, it isn't shown on an individual card... no 'blank' clutter. Great piece of software, just about every sensitive piece of info fits here.

Things just get better with Info.Xhead. Having used the previous version extensively I always wondered how they would improve. How about adding Spotlight searches, multiple backups options inclusing iDisk, Ipod and local disk. Export featues, printing features and a host of other options. The program is faster than before and is THE personal information store. Nothing comes close and I have tried a few. One other thing, support is excellent, many times I have had to reinstall this product through upgrading computers and each time they have supplied new codes quickly and at the weirdest of hours. Great product, great company ... Go try it for yourself.

It won't import jpeg files, and I couldn't get the encryption to work either (the password feature may not work in demo?). When I make purchases on-line I like to take a "snap-shots" of my receipts and store them on my computer, and so it would be nice if this program could import jpeg files and password protect them (this is the only thing holding me back from purchasing this product) .
