ScreenCleaner Pro1.1

27 April 2006

Changes your monitor's gamma settings.

Overview

The developer's site reminds users to note that ScreenCleaner Pro was release on April Fool's Day.

ScreenCleaner Pro manages your monitor's gamma settings.

Over time, your LCD or CRT monitor will gradually fade in brightness and contrast. This fading is inevitable, because the backlights for LCD screens eventually fade, and the photo-reactive substrate on CRT monitors eventually degrades.

ScreenCleaner Pro rectifies this situation by altering the gamma of your monitor to compensate for monitor degradation, so it will look as good as new. Don't toss out that old monitor, just run ScreenCleaner Pro on it, and watch your old monitor gain a new life.

Simply let ScreenCleaner Pro run in the background, and it will automatically analyze your monitor's gamma curve and relative luminescence. After enough calibration data has been collected, ScreenCleaner Pro will adjust your monitor to like-new condition.

The analyzation/calibration process can take up to 10 minutes, but you can work normally while ScreenCleaner Pro is analyzing your monitor; simply let it run in the background.

For those of you who think this is a "joke", you might want to read a review by MacWorld here: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macgems/2005/04/screencleanerpro/index.php Just because Ambrosia put entertaining animations in it doesn't make it a joke or a hoax. It really does adjust the gamma of monitors.

It is a joke. This is on there site: Discussion about this application can be found on the April Fools Day Link on the Ambrosia Boards here. Great Prank to be used against coworkers, friends, family, or even the boss. (Ambrosia can not be held responsible if you get fired or if you actually fall for this joke.) http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/freebies/

This applications is pure CRAP. Ok, the first couple of times i used it, i was like WOW this is so cool!!!!!!!!! and i was so excited!! But then i read the comment on here that says "it slowly dims your screen and tricks you into thinking its working" or watever, and so i thought....hmm maybe hes right! so i turned on the application, and yep, hes right. I noticed my screen was getting darker by the second! then i turned it off (before the rag came up) and my screen became light again. Thanks Ambrosia, for tricking people and doing a bad job! i'm surprised someone hasnt sued them....even though this doesnt cost money

You have got to be kidding. If you notice, This program slowly dims your screen for (10 mins) then wipes away to what your screen to what it was before, so you think the screen is brighter... If you dont believe it, try running it for like 5 mins then quit it.. You'll see your normal screen and how much the application had dimmed it to fool you... Nice try... If your LCD is dim, try replacing the backlight inverter. Its cheap, easy and will really get your screen back to new.

**Actually, if you Do have the problem that SCP is 'supposed' to fix: (for a CRT only) Go get an AC Degausser/Demagnetizer and learn how to use it. That should clean the blotchiness off old CRTs (so you don't have to chuck it). -MUCH stronger than the degausser built into CRTs. And get an actual calibrator like an EyeOne or SuperCal and you're laughin'.

Seems to work as advertised, but now I've got a scratch on my screen! I think that to many people used this application before me, so the rag got dirty...;-(

it might be ok. I used it and was shocked at how my screen had been in the dark for so long. but then I ran it again right after and in about five minutes my screen somehow unnoticed became dark again and the little blue rag brought me back into the light, ran it again and again and again same thing each time my screean would somehow get less bright and be "cleaned" by the program. So I don't know what to think, but something isn't right. I'm using a 1 year old ibook g4

Amazing little piece of code! I tried it on my (really) old Powerbook 100- until now it has been a b/w screen- imagine my surprise when, after running this little app for about 8 mins, it suddenly became a color screen!!! Sure glad I didn't throw it away just because it won't run OS X!

You may think you don't need it, but if your monitor is more that a few months old, you do. Simply amazing. GET IT NOW

After a short while waiting and wondering what this application actually did, I watched as a little blue cloth wiped dark grays to rich blacks and light grays to brilliant whites and doing on the same with color balance. For those of us who can't figure out calibrating the color and brightness of our monitors, this program is just what my tired eyes needed. Thanks.
