Newton OS 2.1 Emulator.

Overview

Einstein officially runs on macOS, iOS, and Ubuntu Linux with partial support for Android, Raspberry Pi, and Windows.

A Newton ROM file is required to run Einstein. We cannot distribute the ROM file. If you own a Newton device, you may be able to dump your own ROM file from it. See Dumping The Rom for more information.

Once you have Einstein up and running, refer to the user manual.

What's new in Einstein Platform

Version 2017.1.0:
  • It's been a while! Here are some up-to-date binaries for macOS 10.8 and higher, and Ubuntu 16.
  • You don't need the dSYM file. It's only useful to Einstein developers for analyzing macOS crash reports.

Absolutely fantastic. I don't really know what else to say. It works like a charm. One of the best apps made for the Mac, in my opinion. Long Live the Newton!

Eh... stupid question: What is a Newton emulation good for if I use a Newton? My problem is that I can't get the connection with my Ethernet card running and sync my Newton calendar & address book with my OS X apps...

The point is that by the time your Newton dies (and eventually everything does), this software will hopefully be at the point where it can be ported to newer Linux-based PDAs.

So you were able to dump the ROM of your Newton? It seems like I'm unable to get the TCP protocol running on my eMate and I have no serial port on my Mac to get the dump over a serial connection.

Yes, but I had a hard time doing it. Had to pull out my ancient beige G3. I used Hammer and a serial cable. NewtsBug didn't work for me.

Do you still have the ROM? I have a Newton, but my iBook doesn't have Classic, and I don't want to bother buying a serial adapter (and I don't have an Ethernet PC card). Can you send it to me (jtuttle[at]gmail[dot]com)? Thanks. -- J.P.
