I've used this puppy mainly to selectively replace the contents of HTML files I created in iWeb. For this, it is IMHO an ideal tool! Changing contents 30 files just takes a few seconds. And that's for multiple changes per file. Fast enough. Just use finder search to select the files I want in a hierarchy of folders, then drag&drop them on massreplaceit. (that's how you can do nested folder/treewalk for those who asked for the feature) You can have multiple sets saved for various repetitive tasks, so even if a more complex search-and-replace is needed to modify a file (or files) which normally would take a 2-step approach, it can be done. With ease. The fields can take quite lengthy pieces of text (I haven't ran against a limit yet), which makes it very easy to have f.e. the META values in a HTML file be replaced by something I want. For me it's an ideal side-companion to iWeb.

Hi there, I'm having issues making MassReplaceIt work for Word docs in a folder. I"m looking to do a mass replace of dates for a whole bunch of documents without needing to go into 15 different docs to do it. any help much appreciated!

Unfortunately replacing content in Word documents isn't currently supported since they're not stored as plain text. This is a common request though, and although I can't promise anything, I'm planning to look into the feasibility of supporting this in a future version.

Super handy find/replace utility. Event better, a responsive and helpful developer! He even put together an AppleScript for me to help automate some things I was trying to do with the app.

Searched for five days to find a tool that replaces multiple words and there was nothing. I was pulling out my hair then I found this! 2006 but still works perfectly in 2017! Highly recommend!

It looks like there is no way to just perform a search. I find that shocking

MassReplaceIt is designed as a find and replace tool. If you're looking for a pure search tool, there are plenty of other applications that are designed specifically for this that will probably suit you better. You can, however, preview any change before it's made, and if you then cancel the changes then it can be used as just a search (though this is not what it's designed for).

You could double the usefulness of the app by simply adding a find only checkbox

This worked like a charm. I used it to replace eval(base64_decode()) malware in a WordPress installation. It found every instance and removed it all perfectly.

Worthless to me. Asked it to remove the extension .ts from the end of a folder full of .ts files. It couldn't. Asked it to remove "p.0" from the middle of the same files and replace it with "p." It couldn't. I'm glad so many others are having such roaring success though. I'll look elsewhere. OSX3.9

Hi Dom21, Thanks for your feedback. Most likely your search settings weren't correct, for example it may have been set to search contents when you wanted to search filenames. If you email me (see the link on the MassReplaceIt website) I can help you find the problem.
