QuickTunes is an easy to use, easy to run, iTunes plugin. Just double click the icon and you have a nice little menu displaying the current iTunes song. Click on the menu and access extra commands for iTunes. QuickTunes also includes customizable hotkeys to access iTunes features at the click of a button from any application. Depending on your particular customization, QuickTunes will pop up a floating window that displays current song info as well as album art. You may also choose from 6 different delicious colors for the floating window. The program runs in the background so there is no dock icon or any application menus.

This is really useful when you bought a group of new tracks and are listening through these when you're working on something else and with a quick glance you can see what you're listening to.
The shortcuts for track control are also nice, but ByteController works more reliably and is more flexible in the choice of shortcuts. You can ignore this feature of course, but I choosed use only QuicktTunes for now. It's good enough.
CPU use is 0.0% when idle and on track change up to between 0.6-3% on my old COre2Duo from 2007, so I would not worry about CPU usage at all.
the only really useful thing about this program is the display song in menubar feauture.
i prefer the "bezel" look to my windows and stuff.
not to mention it consistantly uses 5% of my processor when doing nothing but displaying the song in the menubar.
i really dont mean to come down on the developer, i really appreciate free software but i cant afford to lose my processing power like that, so cut it down please? and maybe add a little customization to the window and this application would be very very good.
thanks.
i like the menubar part of this app.
one bug in Tiger10.4.1 with most recent itunes, the floating screen when i have neither the "always on" or the "when song changes" box UNchecked it still appears. the only way to get rid of it is to put the transparency to 0%.
also it is consistently using 3.1% of the processor, is that necessary/?
thanks for the app
Great (Menu-)Application; just was i was looking for a long time.
The only problem i have is the quality of the graphics/GUI : it's a little bit to much 80ies/Mac OS 9/Popcorn/Candy... ... i would prefer something more like the "Tiger"-Style w/ less colors...
... but maybe the author of this great software is interested in a re-design of his graphics/GUI? ;)
I tried the app on Tiger 10.4.1 and iTunes 4.8
it is very nice, but I found two bugs:
1) the shortcut for PLAY/PAUSE is by default taken by Spotlight, but even after I remapped it to another key, I found it only PAUSES but does not RESUME playing.
2) the "hide menu when itunes is not running" does not work fine: the app disappears and does not reappear, or shows up after a very long (and random) amount of time
a minor suggestion: consider showing the Q icon instead of "no track" when music is idle.
anyway, thanks for your work!
Please make the font size adjustable!
I know it's not as graphically challenging as your "floaters" (which I turn off anyway) but the ability to make the type smaller would make this app a real keeper.
.
SWEET!!!
Just what I was looking for.
* Non-obtrusive.
* Simple
* Exactly what I wanted and it's free!
I would only ask that there be an option box for showing various forms of info, like: artist, track and album.
Brilliant lil app! =D
Awesome simple app. Especially if you're at the computer all day long. Could we get changeable font size, and also to have nothing in the title bar when no track is playing. Keep it clean I reckon.
Thanks :D
Nettes Stückchen Software! / Nice Applikation!
Would be nice to set vertical scrolling of one or 2 line tag-info and free selection of charakter and size within the preferences.
I certainly will be looking for your next updates!
The only problem I've had is with the name being splattered over other menus on occasion. Maybe if it were in a floating and completely transparent window it would be better?
Although somewhat problematical displaying on a 12" iBook, depending upon each application's menu usage, and the Airport connection strength icon, and the Volume icon and the Day and Time icon, this baby works _exactly_ as advertised in all respects. No more mousing to the dock and clicking to get a glimpse of the song and artist. It'd be great if it auto loaded with iTunes on launch, but at this price, or even somewhat more, that's not a complaint.
It is a request, though.
