SlidesNow!, the first application that allows any Mac OS X user to deliver slides live on the Internet, has been released. SlidesNow! was designed to work with Apple's QuickTime Broadcaster to deliver both slides and live video in a single browser window. There are no plugins (other than QuickTime 6.02+ for video) or players to download. Viewers only need to have Javascript enabled browsers to view the content.

Presentations are viewable on both Mac and Windows platforms. SlidesNow! also includes a built-in chat board, enabling viewers to respond with questions and feedback to the
What's New
Version 3.1:
  • Fixed bug in Safari that caused the first slide to stick for the presenter
  • Fixed bug in MovSynch applescript that prevented the url.txt file from being imported into the movie
  • No longer need a folder called "slides". Name it whatever you want as long as it's in your Sites folder.
  • No need to downsize you slides. You can do it using the Setup Window in SlidesNow! Just export as JPEGs (use the applescript called ScreenSnap Renamer if exporting from Keynote to get the slides named properly). When you change one setting (height or width) of slides, the other changes proportionally automatically.
  • You can resize the movie window to whatever you want (within reason) right from the Setup Window
  • Web chat board is now optional. There is also a button to launch iChat instead.
  • New teleprompter screen
  • Automatically senses if you are behind a firewall when you open the setup window. Allows you to use an alternate IP address.

I just tried something called Gizmo (http://www.gizmoproject.com), that allows you to make free long distance conference calls via your computer. This will work great with SlidesNow! Use SlidesNow! to display your slides and web pages on que and Gizmo to talk directly with your students/clients in real time. So you don't even need to use QT Broadcaster to deliver your audio.

Note that you can also use SlidesNow! to synch slides to a movie that you already have recorded. While SlidesNow! is set up to use QT Broadcaster for synching live video, all you need to do is to use QT Player instead of QT Broadcaster to play your movie while you click through your slides. Everything else is the same. Then use the MovSynch script to import the slide timing into your movie. All the HTML will be written by SlidesNow to your slides folder. Just rename your movie "mymovie.mov" and drop it in your slides folder after it does its thing. Then launch "archive.html" in your web browser and enjoy your synched slide presentation.

After browsing for "Slide1.jpg" Location I receive the following error: "An exception of class OutOfBounds was not handled. The application must shut down." And then it quits.

Also, please don't put the version number in the file name.

Make sure you first slide, "Slide1.jpg" is in your User/Sites folder. That is where SlidesNow! will be looking for your slides. They can be in a subfolder, but they MUST be in your Sites folder or they will not be available for Personal Web Sharing to be able to display them on the web.

I've made a change in the code to check to make sure the user chooses from the Sites folder and have updated the download file.

The presenter may use the chat board or a phone connection to communicate with viewers.
