  • Have a different MSN name in every conversation
  • Use and create your own plugins

  • See when someone closes the chat conversation window.
  • See who added you into a conversation with multiple people
  • See when someone deletes you from their contactlist.
  • See the difference between MSN and Mercury Messenger users
  • See your fake and fakes friends (Explained in FAQ)

This seems to be the only client that supports legacy MSN Messenger video as well as Asian languages. Adium doesn't support video and aMSN didn't support Asian languages the last time I tried it. Microsoft Messenger will be supporting video the next time round, as they're waiting for the Windows version to catch up. This is a good client. It works reasonably well at all times. CPU usage seems reasonable finally and it's able to be themed so it can take on other look-and-feel skins, including the Mac OS X look-and-feel. I've used it to connect to a number of MSN Messenger/Live Messenger clients and it always seems to do okay but it's not spectacular. Version 2.0 is being developed at the current time.

Well is this the end of Mercury Messenger for Mac? The developers site Mercury.im now just gives a link to the Android market place. Where of course, you only find an android version of Mercury now. (sic) No good bye, no thanks for your support through the years, Nada. It would have been nice if the MSNP16 or 18 protocol would have been stabilized before shutting down. I'm guessing this was the last build: 2.0 RC7-5 Build: 20100608 At least Danny didn't try to stick us with a $5 fee. Good luck anyway Danny.

I have Snow Leopard and Adium is being a bitch, doesn't let me add some contacts Some friends do get my messages but can't reply. Trillian is THE SAME. This program works very well, no crash and it's very effective, but the inter phase is VERY UGLY if you're used to Adium, you will think it is very old fashion PC. And it doesn't combine your contacts from different accounts, it opens several acccounts but separate the contacts by tabs, not nice if you wanna keep an eye on all of them at the same time.

Wow, 1.9 is Great. Gone are the bugs from 1.8 and the interrupted video chats. The new logo is very nice. I wish It had it as the new logo showing in the opening progress bar too. I really don't know what the others are talking about regarding CPU use. I have it open on a G4 1.5Ghz. Powerbook. My activity is 4.5% to 8.3% and only ~10.3% with the Emoticons panel open. I'm moving back to Mercury from aMSN. At least untill Adium gets video. Thanks, guys for a great product.

I don't like this app for 2 main reasons: 1. how much RAM does this thing need? I mean seriously? 2. Half of my contacts list doesn't appear anyway so as a messenger app its pretty useless. binned it and switched to Adium. much better, much faster

I really want to like Mercury. I've been using it for quite a while, and I've stuck to it because it offers so many features that I use. However, it has some problems. It's a bit buggy for a start. It'll randomly crash from time to time, or hang for a while. The worst thing by far is the amount of RAM this uses. Activity Monitor usually reports that Mercury is hogging ~ 150MB of RAM, which puts it at the top of the list most of the time. I only have 1GB of RAM, and giving over this much memory is no longer an option. I'm afraid that unless this can be optimised somehow to use much less memory, I'll have to bin it for good.

What on earth are the developers thinking? Have they been smoking too much special stuff? This application has been next to useless from the very outset. Now this is worse than useless, impressivey useless... impressive even for the dotless morons who wrote it. You cannot select text fields to even enter your msn email address yet alone when you eventually get around this ridiculous flaw, it is slow, buggier than a rainforest on a hot summers day, seems to be eating an impossible amount of RAM and almost 100% of my CPU. Eventually this app becomes so bogged down that the whole machine gives up and hangs on the perpetual beachball, not allowing you to switch apps or force quit. I couldn't even ssh into the machine to kill the process. Kindly decist from developing the hideous wart of an application any further. It will make everyones days go that much better.

for functions, it was great - made me feel a little less behind my other friends who don't have MACs. Extra functions were nice - seeing when people close sessions, etc. BUT While it didn't make my computer dead slow or freeze, I could hear my fans whirling like mad and I only had one other app open. Made me fear what would happen if I wanted to switch between this and Photoshop. I didn't change the skin, so this could be unfounded, but aesthetically, I foiund the contact list awkward. Proportions seemed to be stretched and everytime I tried to change the window size, it took a while to reappear. Overall, I think it's probably one of the best out there, and sure, it doesn't have to be beautiful, but i'd be more inclined to replace my MSN 5 if it didn't make me fear my powebook would freeze.

Mercury is the most complete MSN client for mac , I think its even better than aMSN in that way . The only thing is that it EATS LOTS OF PROCESSOR !! , I have a dual G5 1.8 GHZ and I often have to force quit Mercury cause its eating all processor speed. MAybe its because its writen in Java... I don't know , but aMSN is more stable in that way than mercury, any way , I stick with mercury

Functionality is greater than in aMSN. e.g. sending winks, display Music listening under special nick. Actually great job about flash, looking forward for integration in app it self. Hope soon integration of integration of my space as star in buddy list like msn 7. Ability to safe animoticon, emoticon directly from chat window. Best MSN Client for Mac OS X user !

I'd use it all the time if it weren't slow as hell on my G3 400... So I have to stick to Adium, very fast, but no webcam. BTW I only get 1 to 2 fps on webcam chats even though I use a 600k connection. Doesn't happen with Y! Messenger for example.

webcam rocks. the quality of webcam image is lower compared to amsn, however mercury doesn't cause my system to block after a few minutes of usage - as instead use to happen with amsn. 4 stars for features just because I'd like to have the capability to see the transmitting and receiving webcams together and not just one at a time. Great job anyway. with this and amsn, who else needs still to wait for microsoft official msn?

I could send videostream once, and after that it stopped working, have yet to experince recieving videostream. In conjunction with macam plugin it caused my first kernal panic since running OS X 10.1 and Mercury seems to freeze when quitting and webcam is still plugged in. I use a Logitech Express. Otherwise it works great, but the interface is clumsy.

when i downloaded 1708 version, it appeared on my desktop as a .php file, which opens in macromedia dreamweaver. I dropped it into stuffit expander and that worked and now ive got a version of mercury - but it doesnt have video conferece support. I then downloaded a 1709 version, again it ended up as a .php file. However, when i dropped it into the expander, it tells me there is nothing to expand and will be opened in macromedia dreamweaver from now on. I have download every possible 1709 version on every possible website I can find, but its always the same. what the hell is going on? is it just me?

From : http://www.mercury.to/index.php?sub=Changelog TODO Add support for direct connect conversations Add all options in the button panel to the menubar aswell Add a better encryption for conversations Improve the simplicity: simplify how to remove an account, further seperate normal usage (like setting a single avatar) and advanced usage (multi ava) Known Bug: With the new input area, sometimes you will see the default font (small font size, black etc...) Known Bug: With the new input area, the attributes change when you have an empty input area (compared to when you type a char just after that) Not Fixed: The new cache system prevents the nodes from changing color when selected, nothing I can do about it 1709 B5 - Build 20050213 added a progress view to avatar receiving (might be in .04) added some new speed hacks added speed tests to all MSN setting pages and try catches with ExceptionHandler references added synchronisation to chat area, should prevent the emoticons not appearing (you can notice this happening by hearing a beep) added a minimum event interval option, if the same event for the second time happens within X seconds, it is not shown in event viewer, event box etc... added a open url button in the msn profile viewer general view heeft zelfde als list view (contact toevoeg systeem) added /setpm to set a personal message added %pm and %song in the list view added personal message and current song in the tooltip split the privacy panel a bit, now has a seperate backup contact list item cleaned up some hotmail/email code chatPanel ID and the current chatpanel contact didn't match up in very specific cases, this could cause a lot of problems, messages not coming through, 2 convo's for 1 person etc... (very small chance it happens but still a major bug...) disabled a lot of commands in a multi convo to insure the correct contact is being used in these commands... removed moods (didn't work anymore anyway) fixed a problem with some settings that are empty but still seen as settings

- The user interface is the worse for a mac msn client. - Lot's of bugs, this program is contantly freezing and crashing on my mac. - it uses lot's of memory, slowing down my mac a lot.

Hogs most of your system resources. I can hear the fans on my iMac G5 (with 1,2gb of ram) working hard whenever I run this app. I have other Java apps which work much better than this. And the GUI is butt ugly. With those issues above sorted out, this would be the number one MSN app for mac!

Honestly, this is not worth my time. It's too buggy to be of real use, and who wants to restart the program every time they want new video chat? I appreciate it's beta, but still. this is beyond what most people i know would accept as good enough for release. alpha might be a better term. Pooh to this.
