AppleScript adds iCal event from within iCal.

Overview

Add Custom Date to iCal is an AppleScript that allows a person to add an iCal event from within the Address Book application. It is named simply "Add Custom Date to iCal".

Installation is as simple as copying a script file into a designated folder. And using it is done through Address Book itself, since it merely adds a contextual item to any Custom Date fields.

Support for nicknames and event recurrence is built-in. The iCal event also has an alarm attached by default.

Wow - what a great little script. Works exactly as advertised. Now I can add easily add anniversaries to iCal - something that was built-in in Entourage but missing in iCal. And it's only $2 to register. You can edit the script to change the type of alarm it uses by default, but it would be nice to have a selection of choices during run-time.

Maybe I should have put a screenshot in the ReadMe file. The command is made available inside Address Book whenever you click on the label of a Custom Date. Just as when you click on an Address field, you can "Map of", "Copy Mailing label", or "Copy URL of map"... You can now click on the "anniversary" (or whatever) label and get a menu that says "Add to iCal ([name]'s anniversary)" for example.

Just install it into the specified folder, and then after you (re-)launch Address Book, any Custom Date fields will have a menu available -- just as Apple provides menus by default for email, phone, and address info. In that menu is the command to create the iCal event.
