Virtual desktop aquarium.

Overview

Fish is an aquarium simulator. It allows you to add fish to an underwater environment and customize them.

Fish show complex behavior. You can feed them, see their evolution as they grow, use different cameras to track them, and save different aquariums for later usage. Fish can be shared with others over the local network using Rendezvous.

What's new in Fish

Version 1.5:
  • Full screen anti-aliasing (FSAA). Stay on 1.4 if it's too slow on your mac.

Really fun. The different cams to view the fish are great. I can't believe this is a free app.! Thank you.

Great graphics, interactive and still works in Lion (10.7.3). Last update was a little over four years ago so hopefully we will get another which will make t last another few years.

No complaints with an eMac & 10.4.6 It keeps the kids busy enough & out of trouble. There is room for improvement with graphics & more customizable options, but for a free application it's more than just good! So it still deserves top marks from me! Thanks and keep up the great work!

For people not using 10.4, there's still available version 1.0. Version 1.1 is a quick fix for Tiger users... Although it adds a new behavior for feeding. There's a link on the website that points to vesion 1.0; but here it is: http://web.salleurl.edu/~tm05788/Fish.sit

Wonderful free app. My kids love it..it is so real & they don't get as upset when virtual fish die as they do with real fish! Perfect for older kids too...shows birth, life, breeding & death. THX!

For everybody who gets a black screen it might be that your computer is being used up by other apps (try quitting some) or you might not have the graphics card that you need.

Thanks to the developer for an intriguing and relaxing game that mostly requires my attention rather than interaction. Only problem I have is that I get a total black screen if I try full screen.

So the way to the level field was never found. We searched and searched, but within our weary souls we could not discover what we once so eagerly percieved as being ever present.

I'm still kind of new to mac, I don't know if a screensaver is as simple as a single *.scr file or something like it is in windows... if so this program would be cool if it allowed you to design your fishtank and then export it as a screensaver... aside from screensaver i cant ever see having enough free time (down time) on my hands to display a fish tank on my desktop.

Improvements aside, Speech should be an option and not active upon launch. Too many system resources in the BG hog up ram.

Be nice if you could run yor aquarium as a screensaver module. Then you could use Backlight to run it on your desktop and that would rock.

Running 10.3.4 mine launched fine -- still getting a black screen when I try the full screen mode, though. Pressing esc I get back with no problems. Not complaining; it's a fun little app, especially for the price!

Pretty cool little app. Not a screen saver (no "Saver File" for one thing)... more of a "fish in the wild" simulator, that tracks metabolism, energy and other vital signs. Nothing like Marine Aquarium, so don't expect it to be a competitor for the same. Graphics are not bad, but nothing close to MA.

This certainly has potential. I would recommend to add detail to the fish, including swimming animation (right now they're to static, like a solid plastic fish floating around). More plants of different varieties. More fish species. Add sound & visual of an air element bubbling & water coming back into the aquarium. ... and it's a winner :)

totally cool. The way you can drag the view when it's in full screen is the icing on top :) The key combo to get out of the full screen could be a little more intuitive though, like "F" for instance ;) I wish the graphics were a little more detailed, but my old Mac would probably chock on it anyway... Although I don't think I'll use it on a regular basis, it's very fun to play with for a while. Well done GUI and cool features.

If Applescript support were just added for: Tell Application "Fish" Activate Go FullScreen Close FullScreen End Tell Then you would be able to use this in conjunction with Script saver to have Fish on when your computer is Idle

Not sure if its a big or not but opening a file from the previous version seems to have changed my fish species. Orange goldfish are not Black Angelfish, Black Goldfish are not Orange Goldfish. Request: A cam that circles the perimeter of the environment and is aimed toward the center. Adjustable speef of circling would be nice. I like the moving cam but target cam is too eratic to really be easy on the eyes.

Hey, this thing is pretty darn cool. Good job! It'll be great to see what happens with it as it progresses. Cant wait till the fish move their tails & stuff. Rendevous aquarium sharing? Thats great, though I dont have any shared aquariums to choose from. It would be really cool to be able to modify the aquarium environment. Few points... 1. Does the color options for each fish actually do anything? 2. Maybe hide the mouse in full screen mode? Cool app.

I am on an iMac, flat panel model, have no problem switching from full screen & back. When in full screen I simply press "esc" key and voila, back to window/control. Nice app and very enjoyable, I use "fish" for screensaver when I know i am going to be away from my computer for a short break. Works smooth. Thanks....

Absolutely would not download in IE, but I got it with Safari. My screen goes black with full screen too, but it went back to normal when I pressed ESC. I think it's a neat app just as it is, except that I also can't get full screen. I'd love it as a screensaver.

"ummm... why not finish it and then make it available, by the description alone I'm not interested. beta is one thing, half done is another." I'm not the dev; just some random guy. By making it available, he's not making anyone download it. If you only like finished software then only use finished software. Some of us like teaseware.

Wow, this is a surprisingly cool and fun app. The gui is very clean and intuitive and the features are impressive. Love it! The fishes could need some more detail and textures, but i'm sure it's on the todo list. Also, the floor texture sometimes flickers like crazy when in fullscreen mode. Otherwise, great app, well done. *****
