Scrolling ticker in the menubar (was Tigger).

  • Battery - battery status
  • Birthdays - birthdays from your address book
  • Mail - count of unread mail in Mail.app
  • Text - lines from any text file

Try to increase your update frequency. I have a Dual 1.25 G4 and get smooth scrolling at 40 Hz while the scrolling speed is set to 80 pt/s. Please also note that right after startup most plug-ins will need to do some setup tasks. The Smiley Ticker will load it's images, News Ticker loads the feeds etc.

I just installed this app onto a dual 2 G5 and the ticker still doesn't scroll smoothly. It jitters quite a bit. Must be something else other than the CPU speed causing this.

But scrolling is the way the content updates. Please suggest what should happen when a number of plug-ins want to show different values at the same time while the display is supposed to stand still.

Please allow users to set the scroll speed to zero so that the content doesn't scroll at all.

Oh. And I don't know what you mean by "make it better looking" either. Please explain. :-) Andreas

I don't know what you mean by "too slow". The scrolling speed is configurable and is not bound by your machine's processing power. You might get a jerky scrolling ticker if your Mac is too slow, though. As for CPU usage - I know it takes a lot. I just haven't found a way to make it use less. But the app renices itself so it won't take power away from other, more important apps. Andreas

TOO SLOW!!! i have (sorry, had) it running on my 1.25 ghz emac and it ran waaay to slow. The cpu worked 50%!!!! faster than it usually does to just move around a bit of text on the screen. Hey, i like the idea, and it you make it faster and better looking, then i will download and use. Pay even, i like the idea of the iTunes and the rss feed. Sounds like a charm. Keep it up, but its just too slow to use right now. Sorry.

I have to say that this is a very handy program. For those of you who have tried earlier versions, do try the new version 1.2, it is much improved. I am writing some Tigger plugins which you can find by clicking More Information and going to the Plugins page or at my web site... http://www.geocities.com/jking_ok So far ScriptTickerPro (run AppleScripts) and WebcamTicker (display updating webcam, etc). For Anonymous, I'm working on an RSS reader (I want that too).

heh- considering all of the trouble that "Tigger" has caused down at Disney World recently, a name change might be in order. BTW- neat idea, by my 12" iBook screen hasn't grown a bit since I bought it, and menubar space remains at a premium. How about a ticker app that crawls up the side of the screen?

This is pretty neat, but give the thing a contextual menu (control-click) with options like Preferences, Quit, disabling a plugin right from there, etc, and make it less of a proc hog.
