Interactive tools for data analysis/display.

Overview

Data Desk is a fast, easy-to-use data analysis package that has been helping people understand their data since 1986. The program provides interactive tools for analysis and display based on the concepts and philosophy of Exploratory Data Analysis. Data Desk implements many traditional statistics techniques suitable for data from planned experiments and surveys. However, the program's true strength is its powerful tools for data exploration, visualization and mining. All Data Desk's plots and tables are linked together so that points selected in one display highlight in all other displays. Select bars in a bar chart or histogram, slices of a pie chart, rows, columns, or cells of a table, or any points in a scatterplot, rotating plot, dotplot, or boxplot, and the selected points highlight in all plots. Such consistency reveals relationships among several variables, identifies clusters and subgroups and helps you to catch errors and outliers.

DataDesk has been one of my favorite Mac analytical applications for YEARS. That's the problem. I haven't seen major evolution in the app for a decade. Once it stood head and shoulders above competitors and made a really good case for buying a mac in the first place. (Back then they were pure of soul and only made a Mac version). But they seem to have been resting on their laurels. (Comatose on their laurels?) And the look and feel haven't changed. So, bottom line, if you've never played around with DataDesk you will be blown away and very impressed. (But just think how much more impressed you would have been playing around with the exact same app 15 years ago?) As someone who believes in continuous improvement I am saddened that they have not extended their product.

Taking the screenshot provided by the developer makes me laugh. So they are selling an application that runs under System 7, which is about 21 years old?

Actually, it's probably lower than System 7. Maybe around 6.8...

Sorry to say, but you are both very wrong. What you see inside the application window is the structure and windows of the application interface. This is a longtime powerful statistical application with unique capabilities. I have used this software for many years in medical research and I am really glad it is back!
