GUI for MacUnace.

Overview

unaceX is a graphical interface wrapping the commandline tool MacUnace.

MacUnace implemented options are :

  • Displaying the full report (macunace stdout) during extraction, in unaceX own window (YES or NOT).
  • Owerwrite files ([-o] option) (YES or NOT).
  • Auto extract ace file in its source folder (YES or NOT. if not unaceX ask to user the destination of extracted files.).
  • Automaticaly open the folder of extracted files when extraction have finished. unaceX offers easy ways to extract an ACE file :
  • unaceX is developed to allow drag and drop operations; drag and drop ace file in main window and it is automatically uncompressed. Drag and drop ACE file on application icon is permitted even if unaceX is not running. More simply yet, just double-clic on the ACE file and unceX is launching and automatically uncompress the files. Moreover unaceX is entire developped with aqua life style :
  • users have the choice between aqua style or brushed metal style windows.
  • users are able to change the opacity of windows.

A great product! It just doesn't work. First and foremost, I downloaded this app to exctract some files for the Celestia astronomy application. Nowhere in the laughable included readme does it say you have to install macunace 2.5 first... or at ALL. In fact, the first time I used it it gave me a bunch of errors on a list of archives I'd draggged over, but it extracted them without problem. That tells me it's got macunace built in - otherwise it couldn't extract anything, now could it? I actually had to force quit "unace" via the activity monitor when the extractions were done, because it was pegging the processor long after I'd quit unacex. I could live with those kinds of errors if I could access the compressed files. The problem showed up a few hours later, when I had the next batch of ace files ready to be extracted. This time, I got no errors - but no extraction either. It just sits there and tells me it's working, only it's not. The processor load is negligible, there's no "unace" listed in the activity monitor at all, and unacex is just sitting there telling me all is well. So I come across macunace 2.5 whgen looking for alternatives to unacex. Only now IT won't work either, giving me segmentation fault errors when there's nothing wrong with the files. So not only does this program not -continue- to do what it is supposed to, it braeks the computer such that you can't use OTHER means of extracting ace files. I give this app a 4 for ease of use - it's as easy to use as an unplugged toaster, and just as effective. t's also rock solid stable, like the lawnmower when I forget to put gas in it - it's not going anywhere. Not even where I want it to. If someone has a workaround, ie, a way to extract ace files AFTER having this app break the system, please let me know.

The easiest way to unace files : go there, http://nicolas.sandri.free.fr/softwares/, download PC tools and install it. Then you'll be able to unace files using this simple line in your terminal : unace x file.ace Well, you may prefer a graphic interface, but this is working :)

Worked perfectly with single files. Stopped if there were multiple files... it only recognized first file as an ace type file.

tried 3 times with different results each time. Two of which I eventually ended up with empty folders, and the third it claimed the file was password protected even though it was not.

Actually, both of the previous reviews, incompatible though they may sound, are correct. This utility works flawlessly so long as another app, MacUnace 2.5 (free download for OS X from winace.com), is installed first. Otherwise it doesn't work at all.
