Thanks to PocketSizeSun for pointing out the problems with reading old data files and importing CSV data in which fields contained 'comma' characters themselves. Both problems were easy to fix.

I have taken lead developer responsibility on this project from Michael for the time being and will continue to respond to any feedback that is offered here.

I guess this killed VocableTrainerX for me - I've stopped using it directly after downloading 0.9.

I liked the way the old "new vocable" form was docked to the main form, but while the new one is only a minor annoyance, this one can't read the old format.

So if you think about updating, export your work to csv files before doing so (and even better, keep a copy of the old version)!

I have to update my last post.

I did download 0.72 again, because I had another dictioniary I did not yet export to my SQL database.

So I exported both dictioniaries to CSV using the old version, and re-imported them in the new. It isn't even capable of dealing with CSV format correctly - wherever I used commata to separate words in the second language, the new version does not import the fields correctly, making the second word the topic etc...

Since the exported files are correct (with quotes around the whole term so it would NOT get separated the way it does), it's the csv import mechanism in the new version that is broken.

Another bug: when sorting, it does not sort alphabetically, but bytewise... meaning that it sorts A-Z, then a-z, instead of aA-zZ.

It's not really MacUpdate Desktop compatible... app shows version 0.1, while MacUpdate names the newest version 0.7.2a.
Would be great if the developer could adjust the version number to avoid having his app constantly shown as outdated in MacUpdate Desktop...

I just started learning Polish and this is a great trainer for that!

It crashed once when switching categories, but as a coder I was used to press the save hotkeys every other minute and nothing was lost.

Error could not be reproduced, and it really helps learning a lot, especially since you don't have to type everything in (complicated with those special characters).

One minor character support thing is that with switching my keyboard to polish, I couldn't add those special characters - I had to use the character table for that (0.7.2a).

Does what it says and emulates the classic way of vocable learning in a small and useful program.

Still needs some polishing of the code - tabs and returns are not always doing what you normally expect and other tiny flaws still show, but hey, it's 0.7.1, and free. The app remains functional despite these flaws and I kinda like it.

I recommend to give it a try. Never stop learning.

Now, if only I had the self-discipline to really use it... one day! :)
